timing issue 5.7 omc with electronic ignition

recently picked up a 88 245 vista cruiser.started right up then i get her back to colorado and got to do the timing dwell and such thats when i dicovered its a electronic ignition so go to set timing after i get the cap back on now she wont fire up.....any ideas?

What type of ignition is it? Where in CO are you? If you are near Lakewood I'ld be more than happy to give you a hand.

Too bad. If it has been replaced with a Delco EST then you would need to follow these instructions.

You can always set it by feel to get it close. Just have some one crank the engine and slowly rotate the dist until it fires and then just slowly play with it until you get a smooth idle. It will get you in the ball park at least.

Post some pictures of your distributor. You would be surprised what people have installed in old engines.
