Re: Timing instructions

Is this a "how do I set the timing on an engine" post or a "what's different about timing a 190?" post. Do you have a manual? If it's the latter, nothing special about timing it. Set it to 4' BTDC. Original spec was 8', but merc revised it.

I need to know how to set the timing. I am having a rough time seeing the marks. All I see is slash marks, no numbers. No, I do not have a maunal. Also, do I need to unplug something while I am timing it? Is the slash marks are they listed as a slash as a meaning a number?

Re: Timing instructions

Hmm. I don't recall exactly what's on mine. You should at least have a mark for TDC, and one for the correct timing mark (which will be 8' and not the correct 4'). Not sure what you mean by slash marks, unless they're 1' gradations in between the timing marks. Otherwise you'll need an adjustable timing light. It helps a lot if you mark the timing marks with some wite-out or something similar. You don't need to unplug anything to set the timing. Just hook up your timing light, loosen the distributor bolt, and turn the distributor until the marks line up. If you need a manual, PM me with your email address--probably won't be able to get it to you until tomorrow night though. Otherwise someone else (achris?) may be kind enough to post a link...

Re: Timing instructions

Find the mark on the rotor and paint with white paint, then wipe quickly before it dries, will be able to see line clearly.
