Hmm. I don't recall exactly what's on mine. You should at least have a mark for TDC, and one for the correct timing mark (which will be 8' and not the correct 4'). Not sure what you mean by slash marks, unless they're 1' gradations in between the timing marks. Otherwise you'll need an adjustable timing light. It helps a lot if you mark the timing marks with some wite-out or something similar. You don't need to unplug anything to set the timing. Just hook up your timing light, loosen the distributor bolt, and turn the distributor until the marks line up.
