Jerry, what do you mean by "blue Prestolite" ?The blue Prestolite didn't have a grease shield/ wiper that's seen in your
picture.

Like the Quicksilver products for the old Chrysler.....but I am a fan of the WalMart Super Tech products for everything else....truck, car, lawn mowers, etc. Somebody once told me the best kind of oil is CLEAN oil......Buy what ever you can afford???
The Yamaha and Mercury oils provide better
protection and won't breakdown as fast with
water intrusion.
Amzoil is good but expensive.
Myself I've used Walmart gear oil, that's in MY
motors. I use the good stuff for my customers.
The most important thing: CHECK THE OIL OFTEN!!!!!
Sent you a PM....this is what I have....without the cylinder...You said you might have a cylinder?
That's the color of the pump/housing/motor itself..Jerry, what do you mean by "blue Prestolite" ?
Thanks.....I remember seeing the blue ones when I was looking for a replacement cylinder, they are different....That's the color of the pump/housing/motor itself..
Before 87 they were white and different from
the blue.
So the cylinder works like a charm. No visible leaks now. However it still drops. So one problem fixed. I think its the valves now on the bottom of the pump.Thanks.....I remember seeing the blue ones when I was looking for a replacement cylinder, they are different....
Glad it worked out.....think you are right about the valve body needing work....So the cylinder works like a charm. No visible leaks now. However it still drops. So one problem fixed. I think its the valves now on the bottom of the pump.
I agree Jerry.....it had been almost 2 weeks since his last post....was wondering if he was able to do the valve body repair.....mine didn't go so well...lolPost #68 he said it stopped leaking and still drifted down.
That means the shuttle valve in the bottom of the pump
needs new seals.
I ended up taking it to a shop because there was other issues with the engine besides this. They stated seems like the check valves are not working right and the solenoids went out too. So I will keep you all updated.I agree Jerry.....it had been almost 2 weeks since his last post....was wondering if he was able to do the valve body repair.....mine didn't go so well...lol
Tilt is now fixed! Thank you all for your help. Orings did the trick. Now just waiting on a new prop and will be taking it out on the water. Any ideas for a transom saver for this motor? I would like the one that attaches to the Transom mounts. Not the trailer ones..Thanks for the update.....I recall you saying you ordered the little orings for the check valves and was wondering how that went.....hope you get it fixed.
