Buy what ever you can afford???
The Yamaha and Mercury oils provide better
protection and won't breakdown as fast with
water intrusion.
Amzoil is good but expensive.
Myself I've used Walmart gear oil, that's in MY
motors. I use the good stuff for my customers.
The most important thing: CHECK THE OIL OFTEN!!!!!
Like the Quicksilver products for the old Chrysler.....but I am a fan of the WalMart Super Tech products for everything else....truck, car, lawn mowers, etc. Somebody once told me the best kind of oil is CLEAN oil......(y)

So here is the update. Tilt is still not working fully. @topgun3690 is helping me with a part. I drained the lower. Replaced the impeller. Cleaned the carbs. All compression is at 130 even across the board give or take 1 point. I dont think this engine was used much at all. Beginning to think I lucked out buying a used boat minus the tilt issue. It runs like a champ!!!

That's the color of the pump/housing/motor itself..
Before 87 they were white and different from
the blue.
Thanks.....I remember seeing the blue ones when I was looking for a replacement cylinder, they are different....

So the cylinder works like a charm. No visible leaks now. However it still drops. So one problem fixed. I think its the valves now on the bottom of the pump.

Glad it worked out.....think you are right about the valve body needing work....

Post #68 he said it stopped leaking and still drifted down.
That means the shuttle valve in the bottom of the pump
needs new seals.

I ended up taking it to a shop because there was other issues with the engine besides this. They stated seems like the check valves are not working right and the solenoids went out too. So I will keep you all updated.

Tilt is now fixed! Thank you all for your help. Orings did the trick. Now just waiting on a new prop and will be taking it out on the water. Any ideas for a transom saver for this motor? I would like the one that attaches to the Transom mounts. Not the trailer ones..
