You have her looking mighty fine Rob. That rub rail is a real mess, I don't know what the P/O hit but he hit it hard.

Or either buy a piece from Smoker or find a parts boat and splice in a unbent section.
Dan
"Well I have 2 options,"

Oh there's more options, heck I could buy all new from somewhere I'm sure but for that piece of RR there's only 1 now... I tried to anneal and bend, yeah it fell apart.

Yeah he smucked something good, seems odd as the hull hasn't been used much at all, no dock dings so I wonder if something hit the boat on the trailer while it sat around languishing?

What are the dimensions of your rub rail? Cross section of course.

My channel that I need to fit over is a U with a small tail sort of like we'd write a small "u". 1.020 and 0.995 on the sides and 0.960 across with a square bottom. I suppose they're not all the same over the years.

The problem with what they make today doesn't go deep enough over the top.

Yeah the now missing section of rub rail is going to get the politician treatment.

I've been keeping a little busy on more smalls, got another iboats order on the UPS truck. Got an 800 gph bilge pump with matching float switch that's really nice and if anyone is in the market for a similar set up I think this one is great. The size of the pump and switch has a small footprint and it has a rugged disconnect assembly from the base plate. http://www.iboats.com/Seasense-Manua...view_id.887567

I also got my through the hull Tsunami aerator pump installed as well back there. Man I hated boring that 1" hole through the transom skin but it had to happen if I want a livewell.

I'm really liking the look of the Epiphanies non-skid paint additive. This morning I added some to the tops of my trailer fenders and mixed up a bit too much so I put some on the trailers forward brace that may see some foot traffic.I'm leaning towards using it for my decking after seeing how well it turns out.

Glen was nice enough to weld up a AL fuel filler insert for the old gal as the plastic one was of course plastic and ruined. I know he wasn't happy with not being able to smooth out the welds inside but I found a way to do it. After stripping the paint and primer off I used some JB water weld, rolled it out like a snake and mushed it in over the inside corner welds. Sanded smooth and painted. It's tough to see much with the black, I used solid rivets to attach the insert and think it looks super Glen, thanks. Oh yeah I put on a new vent too.

She is looking awesome, Rob. I cant take credit for the filler, Budski's son made it and sent it on to me with some other parts. Pretty cool it's been in 3 Starcraft owners hands.

Thanks Glen. I didn't know that about the filler insert, that is cool. Thanks John and Budski Jr. :joyous:

Your making some really nice progress Rob, she's really looking good, and you're welcome on the filler insert we certainly didn't expect it to travel that far, glad it worked for you forgot all about it.

One more thing Rob you have to watch out on over filling fuel with that type of side fill, I almost ruined a paint new paint job on one of my V5 rebuilds sat in the heat and the gas expanded and leaked out of the cap and ran down the side of the boat, managed to fix the paint but it wasn't the same.

Thanks again and for the tip to not top that tank off. I'll be having to figure out the best way to add oil for premix too without making a huge mess down the side and give the oil a gas chaser I guess to get it down into the tank.

I kind of like that feature for filling up. has anyone done that and had it go to a removeable (red) style tank? I know that sounds funny, but would be easier than climbing in and out at fillups.

My Land Rover hi-cap pickup bed has a similar arrangement, so parts could maybe be adapted.

Not sure I know what you mean gone, you thinking about making a remote fill for a portable tank? I think it might be unsafe as you should be removing the tank from the boat, placing it on the ground and then filling. Grounding is a good thing to avoid static electricity.

Very good point with the electricity. I didnt even think that in. Looks like mine will stay portable lol.

Still moving and today's activities have started on the SS. Final foam arrangements once the tank, filler and vent hoses are in.

On to cutting and dry fitting the lower deck, glad that chore is over now! Not sure I like how SC did the decking but I'm putting it back in like the factory had it with the ply running fore and aft with an exception as they had a mated section up front over front the tank. I put 2 small pieces in the back on either side of the splashwell so I could match up the long pieces over the top of a cross support.at the end of the tank well.

I'm planning on butting the ply up to the knee braces and then put a deck plate in the splashwell so I can access the bilge to get at the pumps if needed. There'll be an access plate over the fittings on the tank too and a cutout for the filler hose to go under the deck so I have little more cutting to do down the road.

Good idea on the deck plates for access to the tank hose and wiring my 1988 ss180 has the there also an access plate in the splash well for bilge and live well pumps, as Glen I'm also curious about the tank did you find something I thought I missed something.

Thanks for stopping by guys. The fuel tank I don't have yet. After all my searching and looking I came up empty so I just decided to drop off the old sieve at a local metal fab shop as my options were exhausted for a new tank that would fit. Not what I wanted to do but I'm stuck with no other options. The guy looked at it and said that they would weld all the holes shut and then weld a new bottom over the existing bottom and then pressure test it.

I was thinking that I would prime and paint the tank to give at least the outside some added protection. I was also wondering if that POR15 tank sealer would be a good idea too but I've read some horror stories about it. If the tank doesn't get perfectly clean and the primer go on everywhere that POR stuff will start coming off and clog everything up down the road. That POR isn't cheap either for their kit which would add another 100 to the cost of the tank.

What do you guys think?
