Yooper! Thanks for stopping by!

OK, just so I am sure...

What exactly are you looking for? Just a motor? HP? Boat and motor?

Cheers!

Re: The search for a free (or nearly free) Starcraft!

I have an 18 foot mariner I'm going to restore Has a 73 65 horse johnson on it also have another 65 horse (72) from my dads old boat . Neither have been run in a few years and I'm undecided at this point whether to use one or look for more power. I was just thinking that if I do find a good deal on a running /dependable 65 or bigger on a starcraft ( probably prefer 85 horse or so) in the spring I would have no use at this point for a second hull (unless I catch msbs from u guys in which case the wife will kill me soooooo) In any case I won't be spending much until spring plan on tearing down the mariner and my dads old boat before snow hits too hard and go from there. I guess at this point I'm in starcraft limbo:eek: I know I have some stuff know I will need some stuff know I like cheap stuff and also know that swapping and trading often don't show up on the wifes radar :)
Trying to make this short but failing miserably:cool: I would definitely be interested in finding a decent running motor and controls for the 18 foot mariner preferably 85 or 90 horse, also will need a kicker and a mount probably 10 or 15 horse , possibly a center console as mine is shot, t-top,? cover? seats etc etc Anyway just really like the idea of this thread and probably should have waited until limbo passes to jump in but not my style:D

OK, Yoop! I plunked ya up there. I am thinking that your best bet would be to find a boat that already has a nice 85/90 HP hooked to it. A rig that is in rough shape might go in the $600 to $1200 range (cheap) and you could sell off the trailer and hull to make some of that back. An 85/90 HP OB by itself almost always would sell for more than that. The other advantage you'd have is that you will likely have all the controls and what not with a complete boat. Anyway, I think you get the idea.

Cheers!!

Yeah exactly what I was thinking and if that hull happened to be an sc that headed south in exchange for some seats a kicker or who knows maybe all the wifeys would be happy ya never know:D I mean eclipses happen meteor showers and comets happen so in theory happy wives could happen right ?????????:D:redface::eek:

i think Jas is quite right....counterintuitive as it seems, a hull bolted to a motor seems to drag down the price compared to just the motor....maybe the whole package seems more intimidating to the seller, or maybe there's the factor of pressure from the spouse/neighbors/HOA to "get rid of that THING"...?

OK, here might be a candidate for Don or I seeing it's a 15 footer....

http://flint.craigslist.org/boa/1983379460.html

Two things I am wondering...

1. How low will he go? He sounds ready to sell.

2. How much might that 20 hp Merc go for on clist?

Hmmmm.

Hey Yooper, bummer this one doesn't have a few more HP, you and I might have been able to split it up, eh!

Yeah nice looking mariner ? I guess pics aren't the greatest but looks to be in nice shape. I often see deals like this one but a few more horses would be nice.

If nothing comes along before I'm ready for a motor will jump on something like this though

Heh was looking at your first link didn't notice you had linked the same one as me  Something like that seems it would be much better than the two iffy johnsons I have even with same hp definitely might be an option if he still has it in the spring..

How fast do you want to go in a 15 ft boat??//// I have a 16 S/S with a 50 Johnson that pushes 35. Fast enough for me.

Yah PS, yooper is looking for a bigger motor and I'd be in search of a 16'. That boat is right near him so I was suggesting that IF it had a bigger motor he and I could split it up is all. No need to go faster eh! Cheers!

That's a SWEET canoe for Mike. And I bet pretty much any $ would drag that cuddy home.

I think Kenny was alooking at this one???

http://annarbor.craigslist.org/boa/1988841133.html

I think this could go sub $500, eh.

I like that canoe very much:D I might need to try to grab that one. Hopefully it is not sold yet when I get out of work. Hmmm...drive up toTorch Lake, fall colors, test the new canoe?

Sounds like more fun than tailgating in Ann Arbor for U-M/MSU:D

Good find Jason!

BTW that Starchief is begging for vintage dual outboards:cool: Good deal on a nice rare hull setup for outboards:D

Agreed!

The colors have to be just about perfect up that way!

I have seen some old aluminum canoes totally bashed in go for about that much, that one looks pretty good actually!

Kenny I've got a really good vibe on this Starchief...have you heard her calling out to you around dusk? It's sometimes faint but barely audible.:D

Good luck man!

Yes, I hear her calling out, goes something like this.....
Kenny.....Kenny.... after you finish cleaning up the dog poo, take the garbage out, water the garden and cover the patio furniture, then get in here and rub my feet. :(:D
