Roll and tip or roll and back roll work well but like you say, you shouldn't expect the results you can get with a spray gun. With the Interlux products it's all about thinning and temperature. Still, these are 20ft paint jobs. At a distance of 20ft you'll swear it's perfect but up close you'll see the imperfections.

Unless you have the proper protective gear and pressure pot spray equipment you can't spray Perfection safely and correctly. The roll & tip or the roll & back roll method is the best for the majority of us.

VC Performance can be sprayed and it is the recommended method but the recommended method for the barrier coating is roll only so it's kind of moot point if you go that route.

Try to keep in mind that the only time your boat is a show boat is when it's not being a boat. I like to look good on the highway too and a roll and tip job at 60mph looks just like a spray job.

I agree, and unless you are looking for the "nth" degree of performance out of your hull, a few imperfections like light orange peel aren't going to kill you.

Besides that, after all that work, the first time you rub up against an underwater object and mar the finish, all that work for perfection kinda gets lost. The boats we rebuild here are boats that will be USED in the water. It doesn't matter what anyone else says, as long as YOU are happy with the paint.

That's the important part I think...but it's nice to know what people are happy with, so you can be happy with your own paint job when it comes time to doing it.

Oh, and I didn't include Gel coat simply because it's not PAINT, and there really aren't a bunch of different Gel coats to chose from like you can with marine paints.

Not tryn to start a i-net quarrel but you can get better that spray results using a roll and roll method. Just as a sprayer needs practice to get it right so does roll and roll...WIth one difference Perfection was meant to be rolled and not sprayed.

With that said its a very delicate balance between initial roll it out and then flattening the stipple with another roll. But after 4-5 layers most people can get the timing down...QC care to add.

Interlux Perfection is like a good rifle. It is far more accurate than the shooter.

It is designed to be applied using simple tools. But it takes some technique to apply. Do not assume that if you get all the spray equipment needed to shoot it, that you will get a better result because of the method used.

More often than not, the paint outperforms the painter. The imperfections in my paint job are not the fault of the paint. They are the result MY mistakes.

I think this applies to all paints.
And all rifles.

Elmer Keith used to make consistant, accurate 200 yard shots using a pistol with a 6 inch barrel using iron sights. Believe me, its the shooter, not the gun.
