Re: The "help me with craigslist boats" thread
Just got back from looking at it.
It's gorgeous and has a lot of potential. The old 70hp Evinrude started in 19 degree weather, which was impressive. The transom seemed solid, I really yanked on it in every which way. The floor had carpet on it, which made it hard to tell whether or not the floor had soft spots, but it felt fine jumping around on it.
The drivers side seat was shot, but they have those front and rear facing seats. The trailer seemed solid and it had new tires.
The boat plate said "GW National Boat Works," and the old owner said it was a Grady White but this guy isn't as sure. However, a google search showed nothing. The serial number is 1106B07. He said his reason for selling was it was too heavy to trailer it around, as it took 6mpg off his car. He was looking for a small aluminum fishing boat instead.
It seems like it has a lot of potential, I'm going to think about it today and then pick it up on my way home if I decide to get it. Any input is appreciated, as always. For $500 ($575 with his mounted fish finder) it seems like it could be just what I'm looking for. It has a lot of potential for restoring and could be a very handsome boat with a couple of hundred dollars and some work. I wish it was a little larger for the rougher days, but it seems like a really solid inshore boat.
