He had another guy coming tomorrow, I told him I could go today... Just waiting to hear back, we'll see.

It's certainly an option. Do you have an estimate on the build time? I would essentially have 6 weeks to complete it, as having it for this upcoming season is important.
For the 17ft skiff, they estimate aprox. 100 man hours to build the hull and another 100-200 hours to finish fitting out.

Call and tell him that you are ready to pick it up.... you aren't just looking at it but you will pull in, hitch up, and leave..... Also you can be there within xxx minutes.
Then get that engine hung on dad's boat and running.... then take your time and find a light CC for your 90.

On the abandoned Grady--yes grab it, unless there is standing water in it.

But sounds like it's abandoned at the marina? Ask the "seller" if he will cooperate in your doing an abandoned boat sale so you can get good title. EVERY STATE IS DIFFERENT but generally it involves sending and/or posting specific notices for a certain number of days and then doing an auction. You can have the boat off his property during that time. You may have to drag it back for the "auction." But usually only the property owner where it's abandoned can do it. You offer to do all the work and pay all the fees to do it.

otherwise with no title you are screwed.

forget the title.... I'll bet 90% that hull is done (rotten).... It's full of leaves and the floor has been ripped up enough to at least pull out the fuel tank.... plus it's a bowrider..... you already vetoed a starcraft bowrider because you didn't like the console.... you want a utility boat....

Pull the motor and any other useful stuff and haul it to the landfill .... then you'll have a trailer and a motor

I've already got a trailer and a motor, don't need two of em'! Actually, it looks like it doesn't matter if I need two, because I just got a 115 hp Johnson w/ controls that starts every time, for free. If only they were a little closer in HP, I'd stick them both on the Whaler!

Missed the Grady, he wouldn't stiff the other guy out of it. He said if he doesn't get it tomorrow it's mine, but yes, no title is going to be a huge pain in the *** assuming the hull is worth keeping at all.

I'm not as concerned with getting it up on a plane, but making it work too hard and blowing it out.

as long as it is propped to reach rated rpm at full throttle you won't hurt the engine.... My 20'er planes almost instantly with my 115.... plenty of power..... The boat is in no way under powered.... doesn't guarantee you that yours will work well but it is certainly worth a try. I found that the online prop calculators were right on with mine too.

Well, getting on plane easily is part of that. You don't want to bog down the motor displacing at WOT. Just saying.. 115 should be fine, I agree.

Yeah, exactly what Smoke said. If it's propped correctly and not lugging or overrevving, a good old 2 stroke will labor on at WOT all day. My buddy has a 21' aluminum cuddy with only a 90 on it. Total turd but it plugs along at 26MPH all day long just fine.

even at displacement speeds you are fine as long as you prop the engine correctly.... plenty of big outboard powered workboats and houseboats plodding along at 5500 rpm and 6 mph with no issues

Back on with the Grady... Worth $50 in gas?

115 definitely a go on the whaler.

Nope.

Unless you see it as an investment and want to part it out to make money.

You already have a trailer, a engine (actually 2) and a boat. Yur done as I see it. Rig that 115 on the Whaler and go have fun:)

I agree, but I'd sell the grady trailer/motor or keep in for parts or whatever and slice up the hull, or free it again on CL.

Re: The "help me with craigslist boats" thread

of course it's worth $50 in gas..... around here that motor running would net you an easy $800 and the trailer an easy $300... would cost $50 to dump the hull

If it's not rotted, that looks like a nice find.

Finals are getting in the way of me being able to look at it until Saturday. I just talked to him and he said he will be around, hopefully someone else doesn't grab it before then.
