Well took it to the lake and the boat does great but now the motor is messing up, (i guess it never ends) can't get the motor to run full throttle it winds up and then boggs down to about 1/3 throttle. can't figure out what it is. i put up some more pics as soon as i get my hands clean enough

Hang in there, Bass Runner, I have no doubt the iboats team will have you up & running in no time. Where bouts in Oklahoma? Ever make it down to Texoma? Maybe we could chase a few stripers one day. I'd enjoy the chance to see how that hull performs with 70hp. <br /><br />I have a decision to make: the interior on my old boat will get a complete makeover this winter, or else I'll get a different old hull & fix it up. Either way keep the same 70hp. My 15ft bass boat is fine for fishing but isn't the greatest for family outings. I'd like a bit more flexibility but with only 60" beam stem to stern its just not much to work with. Plus which it's a b!tch in any kind of wind.<br /><br />anyway I appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences.<br /><br />jtw

The boat is a rocket with the 70 on it, got it to run right for a little today got a 13x19 prop on it and it does about 50, there's a guy over by Austin that has one just like mine except it's a 18' with a 85 horse johnson on it think he said he wanted $550 for it and it has a hard top. the lower unit on the 85 is bad i think he said.

Sounds like you need new diaphrams in the fuel pump.<br /><br /><br />If the fuel pump hasn't been re-built in a few years, that's a real good place to look.<br /><br />Just a wild guess:<br /><br />But when you jump down on it-- the engine sucks the gas out of the carb, and it isn't being re-filled fast enough to keep it going under the demand it wants at 'WOT' (Wide open throttle).

Wow. Almost everyone forgets about the pump.<br /><br />Its hard to say without a laying on of hands, but it sure sounds like a fuel delivery problem.<br /><br />Clogged strainer, kinked line, clogged orifice in the carb, somethig like that.

Believe me i have checked everything even the pickup screen in the tank and repaced the fuel line and primer bulb again it has to be something right in front of that i am overlooking this thing has me ready to set fire to it, i have never had one that acted like this that i couldn't figure it out makes you feel like a dummy. I took the carbs off again today and took them apart and checked everything, even looked and the reeds and they are clean as a whistle, i am going to take it out again tomorrow and see if it will run this time, geeze all this crap is going to put me in the poor house just buying gaskets. :D

I wish ya the best of luck.<br /><br />To check the flow through the system- You might take out the drain screw under the float bowls and give the bulb a good slow squeeze. That'll let ya know if there is a restriction. <br /><br />Another thing- I've had so many problems with those quick disconnect fittings stopping up (at the worst of times) on the tank and the one at the engine that I just take them off nowdays.

Re: Texas Maid Project (Pics.)

Well I think i finally found the problem, I pulled the silencer for the umteenth time and pulled the drain plugs and all three fed the same from the primer bulb and i thought what the hell i'll stick the muffs on it and start it, put the drain plugs back in and the muffs on and pumped the primer to fill the carbs, walla the bottom carb started leaking when the bulb got hard i just gave it a extra squeeze and it leaked pulled it apart and took the needle and seat apart and it was clean as a whistle put it back together tryed again and it still leaked, this was a brand new carb kit so it took it back to the dealer and jumped on him about it after all the trouble and extra parts i bought because of the kit he sold me, he gave me a new kit and a set of plugs free of charge and I kind of cooled off, came home and put it together and not leaks try to take it and try it out tomorrow if it dosnt rain. thanks for all the help.

I often times wish I was smarter, had a better memory, and was a better wordsmith than I am.<br /><br /><br />I have been pondering your problem for days. There was something I just couldn't quit get in my sights and draw a bead on......<br /><br /><br />I knew you had a fuel delivery problem. I thought, and thought. It seemed so much like a typical clog/lack of flow problem.....<br /><br /><br />Now, with 20/20 hindsight, I was riding down the free-way, and it dawned on me--- after you figured it out----<br /><br />"YEAH!!, it was a fuel delivery problem all right. A darn flooding condition on one carb.<br /><br />---just like what killed my summer, caused me fits, and almost made me suicidal trying to figure the same problem out when it happened to me about 5 years ago with my little stack 4 Merc. 50 horse on the yellow 'D' hydro.---<br /><br /><br />Sorry buddy. <br />If I hadn't been so hung over, and worried about passing the 'wizz in a bottle' test at my Parole Hearing,,,,,,,,, <br /><br /><br />I could have told ya last week to look for not enough fuel flow,, or too much.<br /><br />Ed.<br /><br /><br />Something else,,<br /><br />You've only been on this project since early May.<br /><br />And here we are fretting over Sea Trials less than 6 weeks later....<br /><br /><br />What am I missing here?<br /><br />Do you not even own a couch and a TV with at least basic cable? I have a tv but guess i am a fanatic when i start a project, of course being 100% disabled VA I have plenty of time on my hands so guess i just stayed at it to keep from being bored. As soon as i get the Maid like i want it, i still have the 58 crestliner runabout, the 65 hustler bass boat, and the 72 chrysler bass boat in line for rebuild. think i'll grab a six pack and head for the lake (check out the bikinis) see ya

Re: Texas Maid Project (Pics.)

Well looks like i still have something to keep me busy, took it out again today after fixing the needle and seat problem and guess what, now the damn thing will start and idle like a dream but sucks the fuel line dry and dies cant find a bad place in the fuel line (which is new) you can pump it right back up and it will start right back up and idle till it sucks the line dry again, pulled the pickup out of the 18 gal tank and the screen is clean, pulled the vent hose off the tank and it is clear, tryed hooking it up to the 6gal reserve i have and it does the same thing so i guess ill replace the fuel line and connections that seems to be where the problem is, if i every get that guy Murphy in my sights i'm going to kill him graveyard dead.

Re: Texas Maid Project (Pics.)

yes on the 6 gal. tank opened the lid and it did the same thing, took the vent hose off the 18 gal tank and made not difference, i am guessing it must be in the hose or primer bulb somewhere, i have a inline fuel filter in the hose and you can see the gas in it untill you start the motor then it disappears and the motor dies. I've looked the hose over real close it is new, and no cracks, cuts, or holes anywhere i can find.

I wonder if you're getting a good flow through those quick dissconnect fittings.<br /><br />I've taken mine off in years past and just run the line direct from the tank through the squeeze ball and dirrectly to the fuel pump.

Re: Texas Maid Project (Pics.)

i talked to a friend of mine last night and he said if the fuel pump is out it will still empty the fuel line with the vacume from the motor but won't pull gas from the tank, guess i'll try the pump thing i got the pump kit the same place i got a bad carb kit, man it never ends, what ever happen to the good ole days when you bought parts the would actually work? I might get to go watch the bikinis yet (i mean without grease on my hands from working on this damn thing) i have never worked so hard to have a little fun in my life.
