I have a Ruger LCP 380 which I have a Shoot Thru holster for carrying in my pocket. The Holster is designed to look like a cell phone. Dad just bought the same gun with the laser sight and a different holster for the same money

What I find interesting in the amount of .22 weapons that are used in Israel, they use the Ruger .22 sniper rifle and many of their agents carry various different pistols. The Russians as well as the British have carried .22 for their intelligence work as well, so it is, in the right circumstances the round of choice for lots of countries.

The 22 was the standard for jacklighters in our area years ago. I would not even venture a guess as to how many deer were shot by poachers with a 22 back then. Standard velocity loads to keep the noise down. Head shots at close distances while a deer was standing staring at a the spotlight. Open sights also. The younger generation now seems to use big scoped guns and gets caught more often. Skill has been replaced with instant gratification as is true with so may other things today.

If my Ruger Mark III didn't have a 7" barrel, there's a good chance that .22 would be my carry gun. That's an incredibly easy gun to shoot, and VERY accurate.

Don't have a Taurus, but do have Ruger Mark II Competition Target...... They are very accurate......

Some people don't like Taurus but I think those people have never used one. I had a TCP .380. It shot great. Just a couple days ago I picked up a Ruger LCP .380 custom (red trigger). Both are great pocket pistols. They are nice to have for a quick trip to the store when I don't want to put my holster on for my M&P.

Thumpar, I bought the Ruger LCP and now my son and my Dad both bought one. What type or holster if any do you carry for being in your pocket?

Yes a friend has the TCP and recommended it to me but when I got to the gun shop that little Taurus PLY-22 caught my eye.....just thought it was neat and different. Also, it is now made in the USA with a polymer frame, the PT was made in Brazil.

I just carry in my pocket but unchambered. If I was to want to carry chambered I would get the side clip. For my main carry M&P 9mm I use a Galco IWB holster.

Well as to the .22 not being very good, it was the choice of hit men for many years and it was the gun that unfortunately killed my sister a few years ago, sometimes you don't need firepower, just placement to do a job.

In my almost 30 year career in the Army, I have seen the .22 be used quite effectively by our enemies.

Let us not confuse a 22 in a trained, drilled, professionals hand vs your average man on the street.

Deep that is true, but it is pretty easy to make proper bullet placement if the person understands what's going on. And that comes from frequent target shooting and practice. It isn't rocker surgery. JMHO!

You can be a world class target shooter and still not be able to draw and shoot accurately, I think people underestimate the duress of a live shooter situation. Still your odds are better to carry considering 911 response times.

I spent many years teaching people how to shoot other people, and you are correct target shooting is much different than shooting another human. I will say this last few years, I have seen quite a change in people who have been asked what they felt their capacity was to take another human life. One thing I find interesting, it is much easier to train a female than a male to make that choice.

One of the most interesting shoot exercises I ever did was timed shooting, in a called sequence on group of IDPA silhouettes with bags over them. You could see the silhouette for the most part, but you couldn't see the rings at all.

The instructor called out the order you had to shoot them in while you were exiting a car on the site and drawing your weapon. Then they timed your response. It was a lot more challenging than I thought, but very impactful - in terms of being calculated and careful.

... than shooting another human.
... a question I hope NEVER to answer in my life.

I do remember a tactical match I once was engaged in. You had to run a course with an "assault rifle" and counter different bad guys AND good guys at varying ranges and positions as well. With the bad guys, you had to place two rounds in them. But not any of the good guys...of course. And this was timed as well.

So my turn comes up, I was using a Ruger Mini14 .223 cal rifle (didn't have any AR15's at that time). And I ran the course and was doing really well, even with the emptying one mag and replacing with another, that everybody has to do at their discretion running the course. And I got to the final stage and there was a bad guy with a hostage. I tapped two round in the bad guy and looked down range for any others. But I couldn't leave it at that. No I had to turn back and tapped two more rounds into the hostage. My only defense was, I thought I seen the hostage going for a gun. Of course that didn't help my score one little bit, even though I tried to explain the hostage was going for a gun. I guess two round in the hostage's head didn't help either! :sorry:

WIMUSKY, I know exactly what I typed. I used to use the term "Rocket Science" like so many others, but have since started using "Rocket Surgery" for a more humorous comment. And you picked up on it as well. It is a combination of Rocket Science and Brain Surgeon. :thumb:

rocket science? IMHO, people tend to overlook Redneck Science. Largely because in our faced paced progressive society the term "redneck" has taken on negative a negative stigma. Probably due people have to have someone to put down in order to make themselves feel worthy. People forget that this country was built on the backs of many a Redneck.

Most Rednecks are hard working people with morals and principles far exceeding the status quo - give the shirt off their back kind of people. I r one. While trying to pick a fight with me, this guy called me "retro". Best compliment I've ever had.

Not going to divulge the layout of my fortress, but you can bet my "flair gun" is one of... And you just might need rocket surgery

It appears way too many have the .223 confused with the .22 lr...which is what the OP was referring to. Yes they are both .22 caliber, but that is the end of any similarities. You want to get into a street fight with multiple shooters armed only with a .22 lr handgun? NOT ME! Not the way things are going in this country! And during three tours in S.E. Asia I never saw an enemy using a .22 LR!
