I just had a 90 Vmax SHO repower done. I am running my old 2 Stroke painted ss 13 x 19. After break in period running 40.7 at 6000 rpm wot. Happy with that but the prop is old. Looking at a Talon SS and am wondering how it compares to the painted stainless? More aggressive cupping? Do I stick with the same pitch? Yama Prop selector recommends 22 pitch Talon SS which seems like too much prop to me. Boat is a Scout 175 SF. Probably getting close to 2000 lbs with 3 batteries, gear, full tank. Searched all over for info on the Talon SS, not much out there.

Welcome to Iboats,

If 6 K it's the max wot rpm numbers factory stated for said motor and happy with current prop performance buy a new one whether alum or SS prop with same pitch...

I found a really nice Talon SS 19 pitch on FB Marketplace for half the price of a new one. If I end needing more prop I shouldn't lose to much on it. It should be pretty good though.

Only a wot water test run as usually loaded will determine so, post max wot rpm achieved for comparison purposes to the current old one.

Most SS props are designed to highlight the benefits of modern propeller design and as a result will load your engine reducing RPMs but increasing speed. I would expect the 19 would be a good match for your rig since you published what a stock 19 will do.

Boat reaction to the change in thrust may improve as you learn how to run the new prop and you may wind up with both higher speed and slight, if any drop in RPMs. One thing to know is the change in "prop slip" effects on the performance curves of the engine as you can expect a significant decrease in prop slip with a modern SS prop.

Ran the new Talon SS 19 pitch for the first time today. Not a perfect test as it was windy and Matlacha pass has a winding channel- not alot of opportunity to go wot for any length of time. Did briefly hit 41.7 at 5800 and 31 at 4500. I feel like I have a winner. Hoping to have better opportunity to test next weekend.

Perfect conditions trimmed right 42.7 mph at 5800. Don't think I can get any more out of it. Great prop and even better motor.
