Tachometer Pole Setting for Yamaha 70hp?

Anyone know what the correct tachometer pole setting is for a 2003 Yamaha 70hp 2-stroke motor? I was told 6pole position but think i might be getting false tach readings.

For that motor your tach should be set at 3P.

Does it make sense that my tach only shows a 4, 6, 10 and 12 pole setting? No "3" to be found.

What kind of tach is it and model? If those numbers are for poles, then it should be set to 6. If there is a P after the number they are talking about pulses which in your case would be 3P.

No, they spell out the word "pole"...So try the 6 pole setting? Ok...

The setting for your motor is definitely 6 pole.
