Question about the wood for the stringers. I originally thought that they were made from 3/4" ply but after some investigation on the original ones that i pulled out i found that they are in fact regular 3/4" board. I'm assuming that it was either pine or spruce but I have no real way to tell what they were made from. So the question is, should I stick with the original build and go with solid board or would 3/4" ply be sufficient in its place?
I ended up using 2x material from the home center for my stringers... The originals were 3/4 or 1" thick boards as well. If I were to do it all over again, I would use 3/4" plywood and double it up so you could span the joints if that makes sense. Would have still ended up 1.5" thick but much stiffer and more stable... My concern with the box store lumber is its not the most stable stuff in the world... Once its encapsulated in fiberglass its probably fine though.
