I have a strange leak on my 1980 Johnson 9.9 that I can’t figure out. Was wondering if anyone has seen this.

16mb file... !! I am not openning it.
I’m not sure what you mean by that? The motor has more a steady stream coming from the circled area in this exploded view.

So I’ve had it apart before and it was my understanding the pickup tube stayed behind when the lower unit is pulled off. Does this leave me having to pull the power head to replace the tube?
No sir, you do have to release the shifter pin to release the lower unit though.

Yes, you have to remove the powerhead to replace the water pickup tube.

You have water coming out the exhaust snorkels but I can't see the tell tale. Is that a good stream?

Yes the tell tale is a good stream with some coming out the exhaust snorkel and then the stream coming out of where the upper meats the lower unit.

Through all the diy videos I’ve never seen that leakage on any of them that’s where my concern came from.
I think your probably okay, if your not overheating than maybe a piece of crud is diverting some of the water to that opening.

Get one of these to test your head for an overheat.
