I started on my front deck today. I used 1/2 in untreated plywood and untreated 2x2 for the frame of it. I'll post pics once I get the last piece cut out and test fitted.

My question now is about stopping the wood from rotting. How would I got about protecting the wood from water? and what products would I use to protect it? I've never done anything like this before so bear with me.

I'm assuming this is on an aluminum boat. If so, I'd recommend coating the wood with a couple of coats of Epoxy. If you can't do that then I'd use 3-4 coats of this and then a couple of coats of Rustoleum Professional Oil based paint. Any time you drill holes or screws into the wood ALWAYS coat them with some 5minute epoxy. This will seal the wood from water penetration.
