Re: Starcraft SS160 resto

Well I couldn't leave well enough alone and ended up stripping the entire thing. Hopefully I get time to shoot the epoxy tonight.

Looks great. Etch it. A light dusting is all that's needed.

The epoxy label says it can be applied straight to AL after sanding with 220.

My Petit Easypoxy paint said it could be applied over a solid existing paint job without priming..........................................

Here is a shot with the self etch. Went home for lunch and gave it a light wet sanding to smooth it out and left it to dry in the sun. Hoping to get the epoxy on after work, but my son has football tonight so I may not have time.

Got the primer on. 3 coats of epoxy. Ill need to give it a quick sand to get the nibs off. Would be nice to have a dust free booth with good lighting.

Got it painted this afternoon. 3 coats, done just in time to still make it out pheasant hunting on the last day of the resident only season. Next week all the out of staters show up. Will post some pictures tomorrow.

Sorry for the bad pictures. I'll take some better ones after I get it back on the trailer. Planning on trying to reproduce the original stripe scheme, but in gray instead of blue. I will probably skip the urethane for the stripes and just use catalyzed rustoleum.

Paint is looking real good, and I see you found a couple birds in your hunt, nice.

Re: Starcraft SS160 resto

My OCD kicked in so I did some light color sanding on the sides last night. 1500 then 2000. I'LL buff it out after I get the stripes done.

Here is my question, when laying out stripes what is the best type of 'marker' to use? I need to make some marks so I know where to tape as the stripes are somewhat complicated.

I also ordered some carpet and nautolex yesterday.
Rochford has a great price on nautolex - $16.85/yd if you order 10 yds.
Sportsmans Guide has 16oz carpet for 80$ for a 6'x20'

Ordered up some hinges as I sit thinking about my bow setup. I will leave just enough room up front so I can put an igloo cooler there when fishing to act as a livewell and to fill in area so the bow turns into more of a full casting deck.
