For a proper OB conversion you would for sure need to add a couple knee braces. A 69 SC would not have factory installed hull stiffeners under the ribs so that's where cracks would form at the rib ends. The motor originally would've been a IL6 165 hp IO, a big heavy chunk of cast iron.

surely free isn't always the best deal! I picked up that Islander less than 1/2 mile from my house and it cost me a LOT of work and $800 to get it home on one axle!!.... its mind boggling to think of the issues of traveling 2 hours on a suspect axle!!!! you could get sued when it detonates in front of the cars following you!!!

since many boats are free or real cheap...the seller doesn't even want to bother with answering question on the rigs road worthiness!!!!! "hey its FREE"

you don't want one of these..... 20170120_120042.jpg

Well, I don't know about the boat. There's nothing seriously wrong with it, but the floors need to be redone in my opinion, the pod was done at a local shop, and the paint job is roller coated on. For reinforcement on the transom he bolted a u channel on the inside over the top of an aluminum backing plate. The pod was drilled for a 1982 80 hp merc (not sure when the bolt patterns were standardized). It has the illegal discharging toilet in it still (not a big deal to seal that). He also pointd out some dock rash where it kinked the skin but not the strake.

Oh, and the tires were cracking out.

I think I might let this one pass and hope for a galvanized trailer under the next one. I'm sensing this is a sound project but I'll wait for a more affordable one.

Bad choice?

Go with your gut. You could absolutely find a cheaper specimen for a project. Its going to be a hard sell to the other half if you're not completely sold on it yourself.

Unless it was 1/2priced, or LESS, sounds like you made the right decision. And make sure the Admiral knows why you decided against that 1.

Another more worthy and inexpensive 1 is out there. Just gotta wait for it. That way when it turns out the next 1 LOOKS like a wreck, it wont be as hard to explain why its a good rehab candidate.

Or just do like I do sometimes:
Yes dear, you were right

Trust me, I probably dont say it enough or as often as my Admiral would like....

Wise advice from those clearly wiser and more experienced than myself :)

Which question. Is this models floor level with the open deck in back? I expected it to be a step-down for head room.

To gain head room in the cabin, I'd have expected there to be a step down from the aft deck level too. It didnt?

Are those helm seats on really tall post/pedestal mounts or on top of a short post (?no post?) mounted on top of a box?

Unless he had pix of the deck being reinforced to carry the torque of a tall post/pedestal mount, that's be another concern, unless they are on short posts or mounted directly on a box.....

The interior was flush with the aft decking, no step down. My immediate thought was "the admiral's not going to like ducking the whole time.

It just clicked with me Curt! He put in a new 35 gallon tank and it extended under the cabin floor. I guess that's another hinky thing about it.

The seats were on about 26" posts like a bass boat and the receivers were mounted to storage boxes on the floor.

It's crazy how much funny business goes on in these older boats

That price is too high for a hull with issues and no motor. Probably wise to pass or wait and lowball him later if it's still around.

shhhhhhhhh, I might be sneaking down to check that one out.

I've already got a more modern engine sitting in the garage.
the entire hull interior needs a rebuild, but a 23' trailer and a 21' hull are pretty tempting.
Wow, that hull is deep too.

Not sure how I would set that up for back trolling and position jigging.
Probably looking at a major splash well remodel to make it worth my time.

I guess I better let you guys fight over it, or I could buy it and park it for a while, till time and money become available.

I just got done rebuilding my 18' Mariner, and have about 6 grand ( ok maybe 8 grand) into her, that I will never recover.

Well then you should probably start your next investment Roscoe!

The only time I've seen trailer wheels like that is on a single wheel trailer my Dad had in the 50's - It fell over when stopping. LOL Repairing the trailer back to it's glory days will break the bank.

On the good side, the bracket is still on the transom, often these go missing. A pair of correct vintage white Mercs would be perfect to match the Quicksilver wheel by Kiekhaefer.

GA_Boater, ya think thats an air activated pneumatic setup on the trailer suspension? Raised to travel, lowered to shallow water launch?

00M0M_bwOdaYls9NZ_600x450.jpg

Not 3K worth of rare, in that shape, even w funky ( ?? cool ?? ) trailer and the bracket out back......

IIRC I've seen 10 or 12 21+ft LoneStar Cruisers for sale in the last 12months...... 3 were the biggun, 26ftrs.

There was a 21ftr parked on a precarious hillside 8min from my house for over a year. It was a crazy step, narrow, very windy little 1 lane road in a bad part of town. No idea how they got it up there on blocks or how they got it towed away..... might have met a sorrowful end via sawzall for scrap :(

There were other random piles of junk metal all over the yard....

I've never seen trailer wheels like that. They look like a scissor gear on a nose wheel airplane with a side of ghetto and a heavy main course of ridiculous.

Don't know about a pneumatic setup, JB. Looks more like re-purposed nose wheels from a small plane.

It isn't hard to find boats in poor, neglected condition. It is hard to fathom $3K for this one!

Well it is listed in Seattle..... someone check the Spruce Goose hanger for missing wheel assemblies......

Even fully outfitted, the suspension is extreme over kill.

The tires are stout too. Remind me of oversized Gator trailer tires. Those are a squat fat tire too. Using 4.8X8s looks even gooofier on a Gator. Something oddball like a 5.3X9.5 was the factory Gator size, IIRC, w an aggressive tread pattern. Cant even get them from Coker......
