Because I have had experience with Yamaha's I think if I were you I would buy the S/C with them use them on your boat then put your 70 on the donor and sell it for what you bought it for.:D;)
If they were twin 70s I just might be tempted! :D

Cool idea. I like my yammy, a set of twins would be nice. I would want twin 70s too for my 18SS

My 115 v4 Yamaha does not look much different than the Evinrude 85hp v4 I have laying in my garage. A few minor differences; placement of coils, starter solenoid and trim solenoids. Only major difference is one is missing a ring around the piston and doesn't run and the other one makes my boat haul. :D

I've actually been preferential to Evinrude but this Yammy is nice too. I'd use an E-tec anyday of the week and twice on sunday at a reasonable price.

With a bracket already on it? Yeah you pretty much gotta buy it. My buddy briefly owned an outboard model of that hull that had a 90 on it. It was obviously underpowered and the top speed was only like 24 or something but it planed out surprisingly well. A 140 would probably do nicely. Obviously a V6 would be preferable.

Oh no guys.... It's the exact length, and style I want... And it's right in town!!!!!! What to do, what to do!!!!!!!

Looks like your going to be heading over to Selah.

I'd be a bit scepticle about his pod work, mainly because he doesn't even know what style boat he has.. it's a Chieftain.. $2500 is steep for no motor, no interior pics I would say it's a 21'r too.

At 21 or 22ft, I'd probably be shopping for a 200-225hp OB depending on the quality of the conversion.

Thats always a red flag for me on an expensive buy thats been modified heavily from original. IMO an I/O to OB counts as heavily modified. So more of a buy or no buy decision rather then the size of the intended OB.

If 18ftrs are rated for 140+/-, and Jas' plans to put a 250 on his 26ft I/O converted to pod mounted OB......

Good luck w the flogging from the Admiral if you buy it. And yourself [and us ;) ] if you dont :becky:

id check all the rivets on the bottom of the hull..... the rollers in my view are not the best for trailers daily for use on a riveted boat...especially if there are bumpy roads on the way......they are fine for fiberglass and welded aluminum boats......... but those thin aluminum riveted boats!!!!!!!!!....... no way in my opinion

If it's questionable there's only one answer that is satisfactory. Buy it! A 250 V6 would be a sweet combo! If the rest of it is in good enough shape.

I'd definitely be taking a look if I were you, cash in hand. Might want to swing by and check out a new frying pan set as well.

Like being told to go
Pick a backside whopping switch?
, maybe.... Then, I'd suggest lightweight aluminum alloy cookware.

If its an Admiral forgiveness bribing gift, I Strongly urge you NOT to buy a household/kitchen item or appliance w out prior WRITTEN permission from the Admiral......

Haha great. Now I am clearly peer pressured to check it out. I'm texting now. The admiral already told me months ago we need a new house first. We're meeting a realtor this week though so that's the same thing right!?!?!

I'm going to text him for a viewing. If anyone else is interested, I'll bump you second-in-line and take notes. I don't mind a bit of a road trip.

Are there certain areas I should be checking on this boat? What kind of transom reinforcements should I see with an OB conversion?

It does seem odd he has a pod on it that's never been drilled.

It's pretty much a one off, so there really isn't a standard. If it were me, I'd just assume a complete replacement of the transom and consider the bracket as a freebie that I'd start from scratch and build/reinforce around. I'd want the security of knowing it had been done correctly, the old I/O holes sealed up, bracket mounted appropriately and with the correct hardware and sealant, and any additional support issues accounted for. I'd also look closely at any hull stiffener considerations and potential cracks as we have witnessed many on this forum run into concerns with some of these larger hulls.

Thanks for that! Are there specific locations where these cracks form/run? I'm guessing along rivet lines and at corners?

From the sounds of it, the rub rails can get pricy if missing or need replacement.
