There is or was a guy here in the forums working on a big LS with an OB to IO conversion. Well sorta conversion, I don't think his PO finished and the new owner is going back to OB power. I have see if I can find it.

I think the slots were just a design thing to add a larger, commercial look to her. You can see that kinda thing on some older fishing boats, I wanna say trawler types.

they are for draining water off.

She's got a closed bow so why have drains?

I think you guys are talking about 2 different sets of holes thru the hull. I was asking about these holes up towards the bow, which are the ones H2Oman is referring to:

Now ^^^ with a better closeup shot, it appears these holes ^^^ are for docking lights, which is a common large L*S boat feature.

I think Kevin could be right about any water that hits the bow cover and windshield, will roll around to the gunwale and possibly need somewhere to drain overboard, so maybe thru the slots cut thru the gunwale. But after thinking about when this boat was built, I suspect the slots (as seen along the top right corner of this pix):

were both styling cues from earlier wooden boats, something else L*S was known to do, and probably hand holds for use when docking/slipping a larger boat.

Look at the mess of spaghetti wiring hanging from the cabin ceiling! They come like that from the factory, boys. Stop blaming the POs. But things go better with Coke.

The gunwale slots could be for securing dock bumpers horizontally.:noidea:

I REALLY WANT A BIG STARCRAFT!

Okay I'm better now. The Admiral just told me it will happen in time. I really love the fact that she wants a big boat as much as me.

Sure I find them when I don't have any greenbacks to go on a wild adventure like dozzer and grab that big islander for myself.

Unless those pics are way old she looks like she's in pretty good shape.

yes I was talking about the holes along the top of the gunwale ..... They HAVE to be there because the sides of the boat extend above the walkway and foredeck or otherwise rain or worse a stuffed wave would be funneled right onto the rear deck.... the ships have them too for the same reason, to drain water off the deck....

Watch an episode of the deadliest catch... every time a wave comes over the drains gush
