Re: Starcraft on C-list/ebay!

All I'm saying is we are getting reported posts from this thread, mostly about people posting that they either have a Starcraft for sale or are looking to buy one. That is a clear breach of rule #8. Most of the time one of us will go and edit the offending post. I'm just trying to remind people that this thread is not for that purpose. Stay with the original intention of the OP and we have no problem with letting it run.... Start getting too many people trying to use it as the market place and .......

Hope that clarifies.

Chris.
iboats Mod Team.

OK, had not seen any edited posts and to my point, if a seller was posting theirs then absolutely. I have clearly posted that I am looking for one however as not responding to any 'seller' via a buyer/seller 'marketplace' I thought I was ok. My post here (8138) falls into this category.

Chris - the above explanation along with the original warning would have served well. I am a mod on another boat forum so understand the challenges faced and you folks do very well here. Thank you for that.

Re: Starcraft on C-list/ebay!

After following this thread since it started, and without going over every post from the beginning 99% of all post that are solicitation for a boat for sale is by a new Iboats member and it is there first post, obviously they have not read the rules, but are enlightened of them within minutes by an existing member. So for the most part we are policing this ourselves. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Starcraft on C-list/ebay!

I will say this I have posted in this thread that I was looking to buy a Starcraft, maybe that is in technical violation of rule 8, however I was unableto obtain a 40 year old tin boat through Iboats. This is my second full boat restoration and ALOT of money gets spent on these restorations with as much as possible being spent with iboats. I have sent at least ten boaters to this website for parts and materials nd have an $800 order to place in the next month and was hoping to spend another $1000 in the next 6 months on a boat that I found through this exact thread. While I appreciate this great forum and the jobs that these moderators do I have never sent business anywhere else. Thank you for the great site and the hard work that goes into it I would sincerely love the opportunity to continue spending money with you.

I will fight for this thread but we need to self-police. New posters with a CL link are a no-no. That goes for anywhere on the forum.

Man I'm sorry Jas, looks like Game and myself caused a problem for your thread.

Never even crossed my mind I was breaking a rule. Guess when Game finds his boat he can start a restore thread and spend a thousand or two here for boat parts to make up for it. I know this thread and other SC restos got me wanting a Chief and then spending plenty for parts.

I will just come to look and not touch, sorta like when I'm in a shop with my wife.

Re: Starcraft on C-list/ebay!

So if I read the moderators correct no more Craig lists links to boats for sale.
If this is the case is there any reason to keep this thread open?
For me this means much less time on iboats and much more time on Craig list looking for my next boat. Searching for a 25-26' starcraft.

Look at EZ's post a couple back. We just have watch for the violators, even flag posts if we have to. That's what I read into it.

Yep ^^^ if you look back thru the entire thread, there's not many seller's posting their own boat. And I bet none of them were up more then 10min+/- before someone replied that they can't list their own boat for sale.

My biggest take away is to report the violation to a mod asap, that way the ad gets pulled or redacted enough to be not be a flagrant violation of the iboats forum policy.

GA: I took the same look @iboats used SC's yesterday, good on ya for posting them. Since this is typically a project boat thread, I didn't think any warranted posting, but always good to know what else is out there.

CT, I'm 5 minutes from this guy if you need help with anything. It looks like a great project boat with the usual work involved. I was tempted as well but I want a boat to use this summer.

Nah I have no time for a project boat right now, thanks for the offer though. I was just up there a few months ago my cousin lives in south Burlington, I spotted a few nice lake Champlain starcrafts under the snow :)

Yeah, We do stay on top of things. I'm sure a disgruntled, busted poster raised cain, so something had to be said. I'm perfectly fine with that.

I posted the site's used SCs for several reasons. First to show what is available, second to show they are not the usual type of tinny we're looking for, third not many there nor affordable (we're bottom feeders), and finally to let those that are looking for newer, water ready SCs, that iboats does have classifieds and is in the consignment or listing business. Maybe a prospective TinHead or MBS'er will see something that tickles their fancy. I hope all of them sell.

I'm not trying to be a wise-acre, rather add some depth to our finds and include our host's business. After all, it's one of the things that pays the freight to keep these forums kicking major butt in the boating world.

The soap box is folded and put away.

Re: Starcraft on C-list/ebay!

Imagine a world where we allowed sellers to post their $5k "pride & joy" project boats on this thread...

They will quickly be educated on the true value of their piles of mulch & tin

...which would mean lower price points = more boat sales

- and/or -

the sellers pulling their ad to restore it themselves after they see how cool we are

p.s. that seller should be thanking the mods for pulling it...we were just getting started sharpening our pitchforks
p.s.s. his boat is back-up on CL...with a 30% drop in price!

Do I have to decide between the Chieftain and the 18 footer? Or just grab both? I can't make up my mind which one not to call. :D
