I would say no problem with the crack, that cover is not structual. You can take the cover off and probably grind and fill the crack then repaint it.

i agree. that area is just for appearance/streamlining/whatever and has zero structural function. JB weld and call it done.

Re: Starcraft Jupiter 1960 16 ft

MrG., that's called the exhaust housing cover. item 23 in this diagram on page 18, parts list is on page 19

Like dozer said not structural. it's just a cosmetic cover. You should be able to do just as he said to make it pretty again.

MrG - I had to edit your post. LOL I'd ask $175 OBO unless it looks a lot better in the pic than it really is.

Re: Starcraft Jupiter 1960 16 ft

Weather has been so good...pretty soon, I will attempt to start Johnson 75HP 1962 electro. The motor hasn't run for 3 yrs. Last time the
mechanic ran the motor. Should be ok??? I am sure the starting procedure is differ than my Johnson 1988 60HP. I have plan A and B with the boat this spring, all depending whether the motor will start/operate or not. Can someone tell me the procedure for starting the motor such as priming etc or lead me to the thread???? Appreciate your input!

Cheers,
mrgintz

An older motor with a choke will take a lot longer to cold start than your '88 motor with the primer circuit. Basically just choke and a good amount of throttle and crank it over till it i fires.

I found as well that they will start a lot faster by making sure you have pumped the primer ball hard ... this will get the gas line and carb 's full with a lot less cranking of the motor which would need to do the same thing. Sounds obvious... but it works.

Re: Starcraft Jupiter 1960 16 ft

Hey guys....nice weather for last two weeks. I anticipate last nasty snowstorm before the spring. Anyway My son and I attempted to start the motor without fuel. I just want to test if it will turn...sure enough it turned nicely. Analyze the wirings....omg..some wires were bared/exposed. Spring break is coming up this Friday! Will try to start the motor with fuel...plus a large garbage can of water. Will keep you posted. WIll post youtube!

Cheers,
MG:)

Good luck on the start, Mr. G. For some reason old O/B wiring likes to disintegrate. Had the same problem on my old Merc.

Re: Starcraft Jupiter 1960 16 ft

Before I start this 1962 Johnson 75 HP, I need to confirm that appropriate fuel mixture ratio is 24:1...is this correct? My understanding is all johnson OB from 1964 to present, the fuel mixture ratio is 50:1.

Appreciate the feedback!

Re: Starcraft Jupiter 1960 16 ft

Might be best to post that up in the Johnson forums. Prob get an answer there cause more peeps see the post. I don't think it would hurt to run 24:1 until you find out for sure. Might smoke a bit bit but the motor will be safe. VRO motors run 50:1 during break-in which results in about 25:1.
