As mentioned, the model number will tell you for sure but scanning the brochures here: http://www.old-omc.de/start.html leads me to believe it's a '62-'63. I'll be interested to see if I'm right. At that vintage, it's a 75HP not 85. It sure would be fun to make it run. Those real old V4's were thirsty though and your more modern 60 would probably push the boat about the same. In my opinion, any of the newer 3 cylinder 65-90HP motors are the ideal motors for 16' Starcrafts due to their power to weight ratio.

Congrats on the Jupiter. We had a lot of fun with ours before I sold it in great running condition when I upgraded to the 18' open bow.

Re: Starcraft Jupiter 1960 16 ft

Welcome to TinHood, mrgrintz. - The best neighborhood in iboats - yes I am biased, but it's true. She should be a good project, much better than the Larson and a lot less itchier. Bottom- feeders ROCK. :D

Less itching is the point. OSHA's study showed inconclusive about health hazards on fiberglass. Assuming it was safe to work on fiberglass until my nose started to bleed and had trouble breathing after one week working on Larson. I was reading one of the threads in iboat forum couple years ago. Someone mentioned the dangers of fiberglass dust. Once enter your body (breathing & skin exposure), it stays in your body. Do not wash your hand with warm water, only cold water as warm water will expand your skin pores. I thought....that's it! Some guys may enjoy being smeared with fine dust. Not for me.

Gotta brainstorm some ideas for Juptier

Steering wheel seems heat-bent?

Thinking about switching Larson SW to Jupiter?

I noticed the wheel in the first pics you posted. I doubt if it's original. If it's not cracked where it goes from round to flatter, it was probably made that way. Why - I don't know. The Larson wheel would be fine. What are you gonna do with the Larson?

it is empty shelled. My wife asked me the same question. She is afraid I am becoming like my dad. First I'll offer free incl. trailer via Craig. If not work out, I'l do Jasoutside style. Better suggestion?

I'll keep a lot of stuff like seats, 13 gal. gas tank, bow/stern lights, steering cable etc....nothing left. Would someone willing to buy $100?

Re: Starcraft Jupiter 1960 16 ft

It's called Jasoutside Method:cool:

Crush the glasser and sell the trailer, MG. A lot of buyers are turned off by these CL ads selling trailers with free boats/motors. It's paying a seller to haul their trash and if I'm looking to buy a trailer, I want to see the trailer, not the junk on top of it. Besides - think of the pleasure derived from slicing and dicing the object that caused you discomfort. :p

Chainsaws are fun for about 6 seconds, then the blade dulls. Bad.

Grab yourself a grinder with a thin metal cutting wheel, that's about the fastest.

Or, a couple of gallons of gas and an Ohio Blue Tip:D

Re: Starcraft Jupiter 1960 16 ft

Looking at other threads, I realize my boat is not Jupiter...since it has three knee braces. It's Nassau. Jupiter model has one knee brace. Am I correct?

SAWZALL!!!! this is the perfect job for one. i'd been trying to hack up my donor with a circ saw and jigsaw, and things moved into high gear when i bought the sawzall. kicks up less dust than the chainsaw too. but if you do use the chainsaw, WE WANT TO SEE PIX :D

EZ, you are right...it is 75 HP...either year '62 or '63. The cruising time per tank (6 gal) is 2 hours or less (gulp). Thanks for the info!

Re: Starcraft Jupiter 1960 16 ft

The temp is unusually thawing. Took good look at the motor...noticed there is a small crack on a case (below the motor) and someone attempted to repair it. Should I be concerned about this?
