Oh boy is this gonna be a project!
I don't know what year it is yet, but the seller will be delivering it with the registration and bill of sale sometime next week.
I drove out to where it is stored yesterday to have a look, and agreed to purchase it.

THE BAD...
Floor is shot.
Front cabin window has been poorly replaced with plywood, and gooped up with what looks like roofing cement (very ugly).
Outdrive is missing the lifting arms and pump.
Missing the starboard side "vent" window.
Paint is ok at best...I'll probably strip and repaint.

THE GOOD...
The hull is in very very good shape. No dents, dings, holes, ect.
The trailer is in very good shape, 4 new tires, axles are very rusty but I'm not certain if they are made of steel tubing with inserts
or solid steel. If they are tubing then they will need to be replaced.

Hope I didn't over pay at $650.00

650 delivered with paper - I'd say you did OK. She needs some work, but heck, most of 'em do. Looks like a galvanized trailer - A plus, even needing work.

Post up some more pics when she arrives at the drydock. Welcome to TinLand. :D

Thanks! I really enjoy my projects. Just love fixing things up, it's pretty much an addiction with me...LOL!
I'm a tin bender by trade, so I lean towards the aluminum boats. I've had several over the years, and just finished a 12' Starcraft for the grandsons.
We sold our beloved C Dory 22 Angler last year, and used that money to finish paying off the house. I have missed that boat terribly!
This islander will get me back to a sleep-aboard.
Not sure at this point if I'll keep the I/O or convert to an outboard.

Hey snal!

$650 delivered you say? Yup, I think that is a great deal even as a total, complete, absolute rebuild:thumb:

I can't figure that bracket thing hanging off the stern of your new Islander. What the heck is that? frame work for a swim platform? Plus a centered kicker motor?? Head scratcher for me eh.

She'll make a great project, game on:becky:

We have a couple of OB bracket conversion projects going on right now for ideas.

I don't remember seeing that bracket contraption when I looked at the boat yesterday.

Re: Starcraft Islander project

I gotta stop looking at the other Starcraft restorations on here...especially those where EVERY RIVET was removed....LOL!

I'm not going that far on this puppy. I just want it functional and easy on the eyes. Maybe an aluminum tread-plate floor, a remote control 50cal where the front hatch is and a nice digital camo paint job...hahahahaha!

WeldZilla's thread - http://forums.iboats.com/boat-resto...ffshore-3-0liter-omc-suzuki-df140-516113.html

Hey snal - They don't remove and replace all the rivets. A couple are left in so the hull doesn't turn into a pile of tin. :D Seriously, those are extreme recovery projects. Very extreme makeovers! :joyous:

Wow! Thanks for the link! He does nice work!
That's exactly what I had pictured in my mind.
I'm gonna have to pick his brain on my build.
I have a metal fab shop, and we TIG weld aluminum. I'm not certified in welding though, as or fabrications do not require it, I'm self taught.

Welcome, She looks like a keeper to me. Unless It's been sent through a car crusher, or dragged behind a truck from California to New York city ANY Islander is worth saving. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Re: Starcraft Islander project

Yippie!...the boat will be delivered to me tomorrow! Also found that the seller (actually the seller's son, whom I've been dealing with) is a customer of mine. He was overjoyed that he'll be able to see my progress on the boat restoration. His dad bought this boat when he was 10 y/o...so he grew up enjoying it.
It's been a few years since I rebuilt an 18' Starcraft CC, but I just finished a 1967 12' Starcraft for my grandsons, which means that I'm more or less jumping from the frying pan into the fire with this 22 footer :).

Before spending a lot on the engine/outdrive consider an outboard.
