Thanks for moving the thread. The reason is I'm getting into the part of the rebuild where I need help from guys who are doing the same thing.

My question is now that I will start laying the deck I am going to use the entire middle portion you see that has a piece of plywood riveted in the bottom as storage. I need to come up with a couple of good size hatches. I want to make the hatches but does anyone know what I can get trim rings like you would get on a ski boat for ski storage or an rv compartment hatch. Any other ideas would be welcomed.

More progress, tanks installed, deck installed. then a question.


The last picture is of the plastic channel for the windows that slide on the sides. does anyone know where this material can be bought???

You can fabricate your own custom hatch rings out of aluminum angle, you can buy this angle at Home Depot or Lowes.

The foam you have packed around your fuel tanks is a big mistake:


That foam is not a fuel resistant foam and it only takes a few drops of gasoline to melt a whole bunch of that foam, if your tank(s) ever leak you'll have a huge mess of white goo and no support for your tanks.

The correct foam to use around fuel tanks is the 2 part expanding urethane foam.

The tanks are new and made out of polyethylene, the old aluminum tanks went 40 years without leaking. I understand the foam is not fuel resistant but the manufacturer specifically called out not foaming the tanks in to allow for expansion. At this point I think a leak is pretty low odds.
