Re: Speed/red light cameras

Comrade, I have a feeling that too will change shortly.

Well, it never will. It can't. You can't be issued a criminal violation from a private company.

The problem I have remains what the issue was several years ago, guilty until proven innocent. That STILL is not how our justice system works. They say, "It's not a criminal violation, it's a ticket, basically a bill." Well, legally, no company can issue you a bill that you did not receive any good or service for. If a plumber can't bill you for something you never agreed to, a red light violation company can't bill you for something you never agreed to. There are legal problems all over the place with this stuff.

Here is an old thread I made before several in this thread were even members when they popped up in our city. 3 years later, they are still a hot topic.

Re: Speed/red light cameras

kinda makes you want to go around town at night and shoot out the camera's

i hate those red arrows too.
when you can turn left after yeilding to oncomming traffic.
but there is a red arrow there.
so i can't turn left if there is no traffic comming?
come on.
that just slows down busy intersections.

I agree, many here can't grasp the CIVIL violation part of this. I see the people that think I'm an evil speed demon have no clue, nor have no experience in a city with these cameras everywhere.
Like I said, my aunt has 12 so far this year. I have 8, not 10, I actually counted them last night. 2 people I invest with have 8 and 10 respectively.

I guess people think we are a gang of hooligans who are tearing up the city LOL :D

Off to read your thread now ;)

If it is just a 3rd party company that is running the red light cams I would be surprised.
In Ontario, the system is run by the Govt. (too much $$$ involved to farm it out I guess...)

Here the tickets are like a parking infraction...registered against the vehicle and thus its owner; no points involved and so no insurance impact either, but you are on the hook for the fine....no pay?...no annual license renewal until all fines are cleared.

That was how the cities in Montana screwed themselves, they tried to say the company operating the camera system were authorized agents for law enforcement, the legislature said nope now way, no how and drew up a law banning them...

Tim, it is just a 3rd party company running them. The company's name is Redflex out of Arizona. You can google them for more information. Notice how many lawsuits there are against them.

Here is the bastard's website.

OP is in Baltimore....how is this link relevant?:confused:

Because redflex is the biggest operator of these red light and speed cameras in the nation. They are out of Arizona, but there are Redflex cameras within 2 miles of my home in south Louisiana. Chances are, the company that operates the cameras where the OP is located is Redflex.

We don't have them in the country either, but if you look back you will see I travel to the city for business every day.
Hell, where i live we have 1 traffic light, and you can leave your keys in your car. You can't build on less than 2 acres and there is no crime.

Not sure how that relates?

I would watch the guy in your boat, he's a real sponge.

Re: Speed/red light cameras

who would you trust to run the cameras

an independent company who generates their revenue from on a percentage or per ticket basis

or local government who generates their revenue from giving out the tickets.

Personally I feel there is a conflict of interest in either case. and have heard many horror stories of the timers in the camerasa being out of callibration causing tickets to be generated without an actual infraction.
