So, how fast is your boat?

How fast can your boat go? Tell us the GPS verified speed or what the speedo reads.

I have found that my new Faria speedo reads pretty close up until about 45 mph, then it reads high. While making runs in my ProLine, I saw 52.4 on my GPS and the speedo was reading 56, so it's off a bit. However, when I dropped back to cruise, I saw 44 on the GPS and 45 on the speedo. So, for the majority of the time, my speedo will be fairly reliable.

So, how fast are ya'???

UFM82

I have experienced the same with my speedo vs. gps. Except mine is accurate at 30mph and as speed increases it reads high.

I was doing 48mph on the gps last year, with a dinged up prop, hoping for 50mph with it fixed. The speedo read 52.

Re: So, how fast is your boat?

My speedos (have 2) are Airguide and are calibratable. My left speedo is dead on by GPS between 40-48 MPH. I purposely have it set that way for barefooting. My right speedo is set to be accurate from 25-35 for skiing. They both read within 1.5 MPH of each other, but I'm kinda fussy on speed. If I call 44, I want 44, not 45.

As for speed, mine goes about 52-53 with my high five on, unless I want to over rev my motor. If I put on my Turbo prop, I can get about 63.

Re: So, how fast is your boat?

I saw 55 on my GPS for the first time this last trip. I have been playing with moving weight around and trying to get the bow up a little more. Seems to have helped.

With both this boat and my last one the GPS and Merc speedo are pretty damn close from around 20 up . . .

BTW, I have always liked that Sanger Barefoot. Recommended it to someone who wants a Tournament boat, but thinks 45 MPH is too slow.

My blue water 19' with a 4.3 is right at 42 mph on the gps with 2 people in the boat.
My 17' glastron pegs the stock speedo at 55 and keeps going with 2 people and my laser II prop. I have not tested it with the gps and that prop because it sucks for water sports. With the highfive and 2 people it will do right around 54-56 gps on calm water.
I can't wait to see how fast she'll go with the 4bbl setup!

I was going to post how fast my boat goes but I'm apparently all ready out matched. 17ft Manatee with a 115 Evinrude, 38mph GPS.

Hey Quietcat.....
45 for a Sanger Barefooter?

Mine (outboard model no longer made) goes way faster. The current inboard model will do very close to 50 with the 330 HP Black Scorpion motor, and even faster if you go to the 340 HP. For 2005, they have a 420 HP 8.1 liter as an option. I think it does 54 without a skier. The Sangers are one of the fastest inboards.

My 18' Starcraft with a 115 Merc will hit 45 (both GPS and speedo), with 4 adults and their stuff.

The speedo +/- 3mph once I get over 20mph. Under that and I don't really care - except when trolling, then it's GPS all the way!

No, my point was that he wants a traditional tournament boat (Inboard), but doesn't like the 45 MPH. I think your boat is the perfect compromise if you want to haul a$$.

I can see how my post was confusing, sorry

Sanger used to make REALLY fast flatbottoms here in Southern California I think?

My Boston Whaler Montauk exceeded 80mph one time. GPS in the truck and radar of the MN State Smoky agreed on it.

Best of all, my son talked the Smoky out of a ticket. :)

My CV-16 hit 50 GPS before it started having problems. This year with a new engine I think I can hit 60.... :D

24 top end with light load and good water, at seven mph or over there is less than 1 mph diffrence between gps and pitot tube speedo unless it gets obstructed.
