Slow to go in gear

135 Mercury, 6 cyl, 84. Shifts to reverse fine. When I shift to forward, it doesn't want to go in gear. The gears grind before it finally shifts to forward. Is there an adjustment thagt I can make without taking lower unit apart?

Remove the cowl and the bottom cable is the shift cable shorten it by turning the barrel end 3 or 4 turns then try the shift again, it that point you will probably have to fine tune the adjustment again

Thanks for reply. I'll have to wait till I get my tilt problem straitened out to make this adjustment. Boating is always an adventure.
