Should I cut my tape lines?

I am done painting my boat and I am going to remove the tape within the next few days. Do I need to run a razor blade at the edge of the paint to ensure that the tape does not take any of the new paint away?

The picture shows the tape line right above the brown paper.

I wholeheartedly agree with bond-o, pull tape, sooner than later, but check first... if it tries to pull up the paint, then, Yes to cutting with a razor...

Just a suggestion, if you need to cut it, try using an X-acto knife with fresh blades... Use avery light touch...takes a lot less pressure and MAY prevent cutting into the paint down to the surface...basically just lay the knife on the edge of the tape and guide it along...

But, a trick I have used before, if you cut down to the surface, is to use a good quality clear spray and seal the cut...if you need to...

I have been wrestling with the idea of going over it with at least one coat of clear, but I dont know if it will be worth it.

Re: Should I cut my tape lines?

It would depend on 2 major factors.. tape and prep..

if you cheesed out on the tape prep then yea pull it.

If you went with fine line and prepped it correctly .. then you have plenty of time to "pull" it .

Its in your Prep and what materials you used ..

Did you prep your surface .. did you prep your Tape ? .. that is a consideration that you should have thought about before you Taped/Masked off before you started painting..

You Might have to Razor .. you might not .. it depends on what you did with your prep/tape.

The boat's paint job looks really good.

I hate to hijack a thread but how do you prep for the tape. What do you need to do Yacht Dr.

Thanks.

Now back to the real thread. ;)
