woodrat,

My comment was to point out that we continue to become more and more socialistic, not that you or your family is... Please don't be offended my points are theorhetical not personal.

I can only hope that increases in oil costs will impact china adversely and make shipping costs high enough to off-set the cost benefit of outsoursing to that side of the world. I agree if we conserve, we can prolong world wide oil reserves, the person who makes an alternative fuel cost effective will make bill gates look like a pauper.

I cant say you are incorrect on any point of your last post Woodrat. And how could I since none of us has 20 20 foresight. We have to rely on our gut in the voting booth . I've enjoyed the discussion.

Pointer, I'm not offended by your remarks, its just that I've taken so much heat in these forums for not being a bush supporter that I feel like I need to explain how I'm not a democrat, a commie or a terrorist at every turn.

re china and shipping costs. I have always been totally amazed as to how an apple from new zealand can cost less in washington state than an apple from washington state. or how it can be cheaper to bring farmed salmon up from chile than to buy it from the columbia river fisherman. Until these kinds of disparities are reversed, we are screwed.

Sounds to me like you have no idea how research or academia works, despite your handle, and prefer groundless rhetoric instead.

No. What I'm saying is don't offer the opinions of others as fact to back up your beliefs. If you have no substantive arguments to lend to the argument, then simply post the article and say you agree with it.

The election is about what it is about to each voter. There are voters to whom the election *is* about Iraq (or any other single issue you could choose to put there). I guess what you're really saying here is that it's your opinion that the election should be what you say it is.

Woodrat's reference to the happenings in the current Justice Department and legislation such as the Patriot Act should make it clear that the last question you ask is truly rhetorical rather than real.
Fine. It is my OPINION that this election, as is the case with ALL presidential elections, is about governmental style. It is also my OPINION that it is not a wise man who chooses a candidate based on a single or very narrow set of issues.

I stand corrected. Thank you. The singular, agendum, is so rarely used that I forgot my Latin grammar. Sorry.

You all know where this ad came from right? Remember Reagan's Bear ad from the 1984?

"There is a Bear in the woods. For some the Bear is easy to see. Others don't see it at all. Some say the Bear is tame. Others say it is vicious and dangerous. Since nobody can be sure who it right, isn't it smart to be as strong as the Bear, if there is a Bear?"

You can see both of them here:

http://www.dailyrecycler.com/blog/2004/10/oh-my.html

It never fails. If they can no longer debate the issues rationally, they challenge your education or intelligence.
How many times have I seen them do this? enough to know its a fact.

Who is this "they"? I don't know whether to assume that's aimed at me since I'm quoted above or what. I guess I should. Do most people on here assume that every response to every post has to be political in nature and labeled as conservative or liberal? That was an aside (note the BTW and wink) to the rest of the rant, not that that makes any difference to your overgeneralizing response. Not everything is political, despite all the efforts leading up to Election Day. My post had little to do with politics, as I generally prefer not to talk about them in contexts such as this. It seems to me that there are few posters here, if any, who are undecided or apt to change their minds.

At least you can't say nobody takes this stuff seriously here. ;)

yer right 12, definitely a pattern. Comes from the eliteist nature of the beast. IMHO, it is not intelligent to put too much stock in ones own intelligence. Not directed at you ol Norse, just commenting on the general pattern that many of us have noticed in the likes of hollywood, M Moore, etc.
