Can't remember :D :D
Ok I have never just got in and not put it on, but several time Ive needed to run back in the house for something and started out again without them on. Usually only a few yards until I notice but a few times to the end of our road.. then the above applies.

Dave I find that video hilarious and ironic.

He is wearing a Earnheart Shirt, who so happened to die in a crash cause his seat belt failed.

Is that irony or what?

Ken

I want to clear something up here. I am definitely not in favor of seatbelts in boats!!! Please reread my post. Maybe I am in favor of full wrap-around seating in somewhat high speed boats, but definitely not seatbelts and especially not anything mandated!!!

I am in favor of seatbelt and carseat laws as there are some very stupid people responsible for the safety of those that are too young to make good decisions for themselves. If an Adult wants to drive around waiting for a 60 MPH impact with their steering wheel then so be it, but we should ALL be promoting seatbelts with little ones who will someday be a 16 year old with a license. (BTW, I have one of those)

I also understand that this is dangerously close to Junk Food Police and the anti-smoking Nazis, but I choose to ponder each issue seperately if at all possible.

I find it especially ironic that aspeck doesn't wear a seatbelt in a car, but is challenging us to wear one in a boat.

Re: Seat belts

Just an FYI Ken,
Found this on the web:

NASCAR has never said a failed lap belt caused Earnhardt's death, but Daytona International Speedway physician Steve Bohannon speculated at a news conference Feb. 23 that the torn harness could have been a contributing factor.

Bohannon has since backed away from that theory after an independent accident specialist's report said Earnhardt died when his head whipped violently forward after his car hit a wall going 150 mph. Also, an emergency worker on the scene has said Earnhardt's belt was intact after the crash
Earnhardt's fatal basilar skull fracture will not be blamed on a broken seat belt. Investigators have essentially confirmed the findings of Dr. Barry Myers, the independent expert appointed to settle a legal dispute between the Sentinel and Earnhardt's widow, Teresa. Myers found in April that Earnhardt died of a violent forward head whip. He said the seat belt, even if it had been broken in the crash, did not cause the fatal injury.
Everything tells us the drivers are getting killed because their heads are coming off [not literally, but straining to come off due to G-forces] - because the body stops and the head doesn't,” said an expert source familiar with the fatal injury pattern in NASCAR. In Earnhardt's case, “The belt did its job well enough to cause the basal skull fracture.”

“We know definitively that we had chest restraint in this case,” said another expert. “There's nothing about this case that points to the belt as somehow having caused it [the fatal injury to Earnhardt].”

I agree.

Any good high speed boat already has large seat bolsters that are designed to keep the driver in place. Drowning is an issue for an unconscious boater, not so much for an automobile occupant. Unless you're a passenger of Teddy Kennedy. (smart a$$ remark).

Airplane (passenger) seat belts are designed for occupant safety in flight, not so much for a crash. One do can allot of harm flying around in the cabin, unrestrained, in rough conditions. Been there.

Personally, I think airline seat belts just make it easier for the rescue crews to find the bodies, in the event of a crash. But, that's my cynical/jaded opinion. ;)

As far as Dale Earnhardt goes, his injuries were addressed with new helmet restraints. Have they been tested/reliable? Who knows. Crash dynamics, at those speeds, are so wildly variable that a real answer may never be known.

Any crash over 60 MPH is VERY difficult to duplicate. One psi of tire pressure can change the dynamics completely.

Definitive answers, in that realm, are VERY difficult to come by.

I wear my seatbelt because I'm not an idiot, not because somebody tells me to. Whether something is illegal or not has almost no effect on the things I do in my daily life.

Wear a seatbelt = likely to live through a crash.
Don't wear a seatbelt = likely to die even in a minor crash.

Somebody, PLEASE explain to me, HOW is it not stupid to not wear a seatbelt? If there were any advantages to not wearing a seatbelt maybe you'd have a point, but there aren't.

Who knows?

I will say this. Dale Jr., I think got a; "talkin' to".

He was more than polite, during the last race, especially on the crew radio. I was listening.

I think that his (Jr's) handlers have had enough crap from the fans, like me, about his cavalier attitude. Plus, "when you ain't winning-you ain't-crap". Maybe that got to him.

I hope so, I never, personally, liked the guy, or his father. I thought they were arrogant.

I never liked the "black"/"intimadator" thing that his father had going. It's supposed to be a race, not a battlefield. I thought Dale Sr. was the most arrogant SOB on the planet. Them's fighten' words-I know. ;)

But, that's my opinion. :)

Actually he wasnt paying attention (just like the guy in the video). He was too busy looking in the rear view mirror, so he could block.
Ken

Chevy, DCX, Ford. Who cares?

The guy was a "pirate" and would sacrifice ANYBODY to his own glory.

I just never got into the whole "goth/death", "black" thing. Or "thang".

It seems that we want our choppers the same way. Skulls/crossbones, etc.

I NEVER understand/understood that. But, that's what our children see in vidiot games.

Kill/kill/kill. They have NO comprehension of what that means, nor do the majority of so called adults out there.
