You mentioned Epoxy, what was the deciding factor for you in terms of choosing epoxy over poly?

With poly you must use fiberglass along with it. It is not strong enough without it and will crack and flake off in short order. Epoxy can be used without glass.

Quick update now that I'm back home. Got the back two decking pieces riveted in tonight and got the first layer of epoxy down on the other side of the remaining decking pieces. Hopefully have those in on Thursday. Potentially be laying carpet on my day off on Monday. We shall see. Sorry no pics, will get some tomorrow or Thursday.

Question- Do i need to do a light sanding of the epoxy on the decking before putting down the carpet glue?

Carpet adhesive should be just fine, it pretty gooey and sticks to smooth aluminum just fine.

Alrighty, I kinda figured. I know they say to sand the shine off if you want to paint over it, which im gonna try painting the SB side console wood.

Put the carpet in in the front as well, but the lighting was bad and the picture didnt turn out well, will try to get another.

Carpeted the tank cover also, working on getting the livewell doors and storage doors carpeted.

I used loctite adhesive spray for the edges with stainless staples. This spray works pretty good. Would recommend.

I set the tank piece in before carpeting, had to admire the wood and epoxy finish.

Well thats all for today. I started working on the boat at 8:30 this morning and its almost 9pm now. Im a little beat, got up to a whopping 82 degrees here today and the garage was probably close to 90 or over. Back at it again tomorrow after work.

Been keeping busy the last couple days. Got the livewell doors in, tank cover in (screwed down for now since the wood is a little warped). And today I got the side panels in. Debating whether to epoxy the wood for the top of the side panels or not...thoughts anyone? I figure if I dont epoxy them they will be easy to replace if they get bad.

Test fit the windshield before screwing/riveting the consoles down.

If you have some epoxy to use then I would say go ahead and use it but if you have to buy more then I would grab a quart of Spar and coat those pieces. Carpet looks like it went in nice and smooth, good work :thumb:

I do think im gonna run out after coating the front upper decking piece. Will get some spar varnish. Carpet went in a lot easier than I expected. First time ever laying carpet. What I did was leave the piece extra big, I glued the back down first then kinda rolled it forward gluing and cutting in sections. It worked out well. I didn't want to cut the piece to fit before gluing because last time I did that with the vinyl I laid on another boat I ended up getting off by 1/2" at the front. The way I did it made it so I wouldn't have to worry about keeping everything perfect.

That's exactly what I use Helmsman Spar except for the clear gloss rather than the satin, make sure it's the oil based type like in your link.

Gotcha, thanks! Can this be painted over? Ill use it for the sub box too but want to paint the sub box gray or black.

Yeah you can paint over the spar no problem, just make sure it's gassed out before applying the paint.

Yep this place is a wealth of knowledge and most questions are answered many times over in the many different threads. If the spar is still gassing out it's solvent then it's not a good idea to put paint on top of it, it all depends on your conditions with temps and humidity for how long that will take. I would put on at least a couple coats giving the first one time to dry between and hit the edges each time so they get 4 coats.

Got a lot done today since I was off work. I opted to not seal the side panel wood. We'll see how long they last. I have extra wood and extra carpet to redo them if needed. Im not sure how well you can see it in the pictures but theres a strip of carpet that runs along the bottom of the side panels. For future reference for anyone else who is doing this, I used the adhesive spray to attach the carpet. We'll see how long it stays. It worked much better and was cleaner than using carpet glue.

Console together- I epoxied then sprayed 4 coats of semi-gloss rustoleum after 220 grit sanding. Paint is still a little tacky, maybe the epoxy has cured 100% yet. Hopefully this doesnt cause any issues, time will tell. Otherwise I think it looks pretty good. Kinda wished I had used flat black so it matches the color of the other console better, but maybe ill replace that soon.

Had to take a picture of the different colored wood on this piece, thought it was cool. I saved it for the upper deck piece thinking it may be "bad" wood and this piece was in the best shape after 30+ years.

Seat screws will be here wednesday (was cheaper ordering them than buying locally). Have to re-do the weather stripping on the windshield and full attach that, then a bunch of little stuff left. Hoping for a test run/ SPLASH on saturday, maybe friday depending on how things go.

Put some lake superior coho in the oven for dinner! :D:thumb:
