I think I may have the last of the filler on after a lot of block sanding /guide coat /re-filling ... Really tired of this part .... The very bottom may still have a few ripples or two but I will prolly leave it be ... The fish won't mind .... I hope .. :D
Starting to get excited about the gell coat !

Sam, pictures, pictures and pictures. :thumb:

gm, I may do a pre-spray walk through vid for the heck of it ... Still need to order the gell ... I also want to call around and see where I can get a 5 gal can of acetone the cheapest ... We have accounts at several different paint suppliers at work so that may be my best bet ...

Okay Sam, I'll wait for that pre-spray vid.

Isn't it amazing how chemicals like Acetone and Lacquer thinner are petroleum products and while gas has dropped in cost, those chemicals haven't dropped a penny. Same with regular vehicle oils, not one cent less even though crude oil prices have dropped drastically. I use ten times as much Lacquer thinner then Acetone. Basically because the Lacquer thinner doesn't quite evaporate as fast as Acetone. I get more area wiped before it is gone. JMHO!

Been thinking about PVA vs surfacing wax .... Is there a real consensus on which way is better /easier on the gell coat ? Or does it really matter ..
This topic seems to be all over the place .. Wax seems like it would be easier . Have heard you have to time the pva application just right . Or am I just worrying too much ?

Sam, I really would like to help, but I have ZERO knowledge on gel coating anything. :sorry:

But knowing you and your abilities, it will work out great... :high5:

According to ondarvr...using wax in the final coat is a better method. I also think Decker used that method on his boat and achieved excellent results. IF I ever shoot the stuff, I know I'll be using the wax. Either that or I'll use Duratec.

I didn't spray but I used the wax for the same reason you said . I believe you have to time it and spay the right amount

Sam,
I used the PVA on my deck boat.. The timing was easy. Let the gel set until tacky and spray a light coat and let set 5 to 10 minutes and spray heavy coat..
The PVA will just peel off.. I used a blow gun and just blew it off..
The PVA will not gum up the sand paper.. Trooper used wax and had his deck not cure.. check out his and my thread..
Thanks for dropping in the tinny thread..

Regardless of what you choose Sam, it will eventually cure....but for an easy air dried cure, Duratec additive would be something to consider...At 1:1 ratio, you would get a paint like finish, with gel properties.

Thanks for the replies guys. !
I had thought about the Duratec but after reading info on other gell coat threads there were some cons about using it .. I haven't purchases anything yet . Still in the pondering stage in my head ..
Gunna happen soon though good or bad ...

Good one Sam. :pound:

I too wish they would stop the time changes. I can get use to one and live the rest of my life without ever changing it again.
