I can't believe you really needed to ask that question! Me? I would not say anything to you, I would just call the police. Most towns have noise ordinances. Rude? Yes! Illegal? Most likely.

On second thought, I might just program my computer to call you every morning at about 1 AM to give you a message not to make noise at 5:30--politely, of course.

True!

Oh Btw waiting to mow the Grass until 9am is not going to work in AZ during the Summer. Its 100+ Degree by that time. More like 7:00am mowing.

We have a quiet ordance in our town that we are required to keep the noise down till 9am on weekend.

I guess I don't think my boat is that loud. I run it at max a few minutes. I'm a early morning person 4:30am most every day including weekends so this doesn't seem early to me.

The first thing you should do is address the problem behind why you feel the need to start your boat in the morning instead of the night before.

Mine has not been run in over 2 weeks. I have absolutely no doubt that it will start on the second or third turn of the key.

If your were my neighbor I would be yelling at you. You need to think of who may be sleeping. When my neighbors would be out partying in their front yard on Friday nights they would wake my (then) colicky son. I would say week days no noise before 8 am and weekends 9am

I guess fairly new boater is the reason.

Going to the Lake the boat doesn't Start. Wife and Kids Upset. People at the Ramp upset because I'm stuck at the ramp. Getting stuck in the middle of the lake needing a tow.

Ok you all have convice me I'm being rude. I get it now!

Noise ordinances are bull in the first place. When i worked 3rd shift I had the cops called on me a few times. I was always just nicely asked to turn my radio down (wasnt that loud in the first place) and to not use my power tools at 3 am. I politely refused at which the cop said ok and that was that. How come i have to be quiet for you at 5 am when you are sleeping but you'll be a douchbag and mow your lawn at noon when im trying to sleep? if you could somehow convince all businesses to work a 9-5 schedule, then maybe noise ordinances might be worthwhile, but until that point, i will work on my projects whenever i feel like it.

p.s. frank... not entirely directed at you, just ranting about how first shifters think their sleep is more important than mine.

If you were my neighbor.... and you woke me up... I would have my fishing pole and cooler at your house by 5:35. :)

As I said, get yourself an in boat charger and you won't have to worry about the batteries anymore. And it will keep your batteries in better shape over the long term. Then when you get to the ramp, don't unhook the boat from the trailer until you have started it. If you have a problem, you can easily pull it back out and not block the ramp.

As for avoiding a breakdown and needing a tow, there isn't anything you are going to do running it on muffs to avoid something breaking down while you are out in the middle of the lake... you are simply avoiding a starting and idle problem and the biggest one of those that will come up out of no where is a battery problem. The rest of the stuff is pure luck that it would happen at home instead of in the water anyways.

5:30 am?? I would have been in your yard the second time it happened, a pissed off barefoot sleepy man in boxers, toting a bad attitude. The third time would have gotten physical.

Yes, that qualifies as rude. If you are trying to cheese off your neighbors, I reckon you are doing a fine job.

That being said,,, I have lived in semi-rural neighborhoods where early morning chainsaws, straight pipe Harleys, dirt track race cars and wild children on 4 wheelers on the road, loud late night partying, Coon hunting with dogs, and gunfire were the accepted norm among the long term residents.

IF you live there,,, When in Rome, do as the Romans do!

LOL that's where I live now. I love it. I did ask my only neighbor if the bike bothers him when I leave. I leave at 5:30 in the morning and he works 2nd shift. I keep it idling at least a block down the road. read above quote about straight pipe Harley's . LOL mine's not that bad but it is louder then stock.
my neighbor said he never heard it. he asked if his cars bothered me, I told him I love the sound of his big block chevy, and I meant it.

I would simply ask your neighbors, they would know better then us whether or not it upsets them.

don't buy a battery charger yet. Keep doing what you are doing. the neighbors will chip in and buy you one.

wouldnt bother me cause i would be already awake and waiting by your boat with a cup of coffee for you and asking "are you ready yet?" or you might wake up to the sound of your boat starting cause i am warming it up and checking the batteries......lol

Re: Running Boat on Muffs. Am I rude

We normally start our boat on muffs before embarking on a trip to the lake. It has absolutely nothing to do with the batteries for us, but just an extra measure to make sure everything is operational for startup. If something is wrong with the boat, I don't want to find out when I'm ready to pull off the trailer, I want to know before I leave so I have every tool I own at my disposal instead of just the emergency tool kit. If you are an hour or more away from the lake, the pre-trip startup can alleviate a lot of anger and headaches.

I would say that if you do this often, that I would start it up the evening before instead of at 5:30am. Nothing should change overnight if it ran fine the night before. That being said, my 351w isn't that loud at idle at all. I'd say the Harley's and guys with their Flowmaster exghausts make much more noise in the morning than my boat at idle. You shouldn't need to run it more than a few minutes anyhow to make sure you have good oil pressure and the water temp guage starts moving up.
