Re: rooster tail

Look like a bogus video to me. Watch the velocity of the water in the roostertail. Looks like a jet drive trimmed up to the surface.

Thats why theres no picture from in the boat. IF you were trying this where would your picture originate? On shore or from the boat.

Re: rooster tail

You guys can't really think they are serious can you? One thats a jet drive. 2 do you think someone could hold a soup can in the water doing 70 down a river.....? Come on now

The soup can would work but you'd have to be able to keep it in the water and make a reducer.
I think you'd be better seeing who could pee the furthest stream off the back of the boat.

Re: rooster tail

I am going to take you guys off the can subject for a second, and talk about the cans use as a anti-jet ski weapon. I am the owner of a 17' jet boat that has a place diverter on it. I can put about 100' of water behind me and up to 30' high. On a river trip a few years ago I had a annoying jet ski jumping the wake behind my boat (and we where moving) on one of his runs at my wake i threw the place diverter up promptly knocking the skier off his ski. seconds latter I was being pulled over by a patrol boat. and informed that what I had just done was assault with a deadly weapon and was very close to going to jail and loosing my boat, for good. I was warned and had to pull the boat off the water ending our weekend early. The jet skier was also warned about jumping the wake close to the boat. I will say watching the guy get blown off the ski was a bit scarry, it is something I would never do again. I stop the boat now and just ask them to stop, I have only had a couple people give me any flack about it. of course I will never forget laughing my butt off watching the ski and operator flipping over in the jet stream!

Re: rooster tail

I think (I said think) the soup can with string just can't be done for the reasons listed in this thread, just too many variables.

I do think it can be done with a rigid 3 point setup as some have described with the right PVC reducing nozzle.

When all else is good with my Starcraft resto I will fill my design thoughts with this one.

Could be cool to throw a tail but with nobody back there, doesn't sound real fun for the kids to be drowning on top of the tube!

I'm from PA and boat on a Corps of Engineers lake and I think a device like this could get me attention I'm really not looking for.

Re: rooster tail

Doesn't anyone use the old campell soup can trick anymore?

Windykid has gotten the most mileage out of any joke thread in history. He probably chuckles to himself every night before going to bed..."I can't believe those idiots actually bought that old trick."

Re: rooster tail

Pehaps if one could actually find a campell soup can, it would work.
As near as I can tell, there has never been a soup company named "campell";)

Re: rooster tail

OK I will tell a related story on myself now. A number of years back I was at a crowded boat ramp. My son went to pull my boat up the ramp and his truck does not have a limited slip diferential so one wheel just spun on the slick ramp. With dozens of boats waiting behind me I made a quick decision. I told my son that I would use the boat motor to help push the truck up the ramp. I tilted the motor up a little so the prop would not strike the ramp and told him to go on my signal. I signaled him to go and hit the boat throttle at the same time. It worked like a charm except for one thing. There was a family of boaters directly behind me and I soaked their boat with the rooster tail.

The guy in the boat wanted to kick my ***** until my son got out of the truck and asked what his problem was. It pays to have a 22 year old son who is 6' 3 265 lbs.

Re: rooster tail

Still waiting to see results on the rooster tail ideas.

Here is an old boat attachment sold on eBay back in 2007. It kind of works on principals similar to the PCV reducer seen a few pages back.
