Re: rooster tail

a friend of mine used to take something similar to a "beer bong" out on the water. it was about a 4 foot length of 3/4-1" diameter tubing, with a 4-6" diameter funnel on the end. he attached the funnel to a piece of wood and he would dip the wood/funnel into the water while cruising and aim the hose at the person he wanted to soak. it worked pretty good as long as you could hold it steady in the water and didnt have too much extra tubing.

Re: rooster tail

LOL this thread reminds me of whan i was in the navy back in the early 80's.

We were just out of the yards and just outside of gitmo. we were on water usage restrictions due to the water system being down.

we were doing our laundry in the mesh bags and 5 gal buckets. ( getting the water from the firemain.

one New officer that was a total jerk, (thought he knew it all) wanted to know where we were getting the water from, so he could do his stuff also.

we told him tie a rope to the 5 gal bucket and throw it overboard than pull it back up. But hold on tight.

The ship was cruising about 18 knots, the only thing that kept him from going overboard was the boat davits, the rope did break along with a few bones in his hand and wrist.

He was so embarrased i guess that he told the Doc the he fell down the steps.

Hmm soup can wonder if that would work behind a merc 250 with a jet pump?

Re: rooster tail

well, since nobody has tried this yet, i'll try it when i get my boat working.

theres a simple solution to make it work. get rid of the string, and mount the can or pvc pipes to the boat with a metal pole. then it can't bounce, sink, turn, or anything else.

make 2 of those pvc pipe systems, and mount one to each corner of the boat at the transom using screws or a metal bracket to go over the cap (if you don't want to screw em to the side of the boat), problem solved, they are stuck in position and you have 2 tails :p

Re: rooster tail

We were out on the lake today. A boat passed us that had all these cans trailing behind it. Figured they just got married!

You go way over there on the other side of the lake in front of that beach with all the girls, and beat the water real hard and fast with a paddle, while screaming, "****-a-doodle-doo"! :D

I'll wait over in this little cove with a burlap bag and my camera, and when the Rooster Tail cans come swimming by, I'll bag them for our dinner.

Re: rooster tail

ok guys what happened?

i jut found the "snipe hunt"...........im gonna try it too!

probably try the can and pvc......i dont have a video camera nor do i know how to post pics but if i can make it work ill figure out something...........only thing is it was 24 deg yesterday, 34 today and 48 tomorrow----so probably have to wait for a warmer day----------my hands hurt bad enough throwing a shad net for bait in this kind of weather for me to make it any worse ........but i am going to try.

if anyone ever got this to work post and show how you did it.......i want some jet fleas and skiers too!

if it works ill have to run it while the tubing this summer----try and steer a tube when you cant see.

Re: rooster tail

I was fishing once and moved to a new location and drug my 5 gal bait bucket to the new spot.:confused:But I don?t remember seeing any roster tails in the process, and also I did not have any bait left either when I got to the new location.

Re: rooster tail

Revive for another season. lol

Seeing how I am ripping my boat down to the hull I think I might install some tails. I will cut some holes into my hull as the pickup and glass in some pvc. install an angle fitting and continue the tube out the back so if I do not want a tail the water will just pass through. Then take the Y and run a reducer and valve then connect it coming out the transom. I may also connect valves behind the the Y to be able to control how big the tail is.

Now there is no reason that wont work as long and the inlet is getting water fed to it.

As for the can IDK. I agree sounds like it is a rigging and placement issue.

Re: rooster tail

Want a rooster tail? Get a high performance boat or buy a jackplate and trim it out.. modifying your hull for a rooster tail seems extreme..

Re: rooster tail

It is really just to do it because I can. More a awww why not kinda thing at this point. Soak down the tubrs or boarders behind the boat. I got the boat cheap with rotted everything so its not like I am tearing up a new expensive boat.

How is that for a rooster tail?!
I will definatly try this out once the boat is in the water, my dad is a contractor so I have access to tons of pipe and fittings of all sizes. If the word is a soup-can with a little tinny boat, I'm thinking a five gallon paint pail will be appropriate for my boat (20,000lbs) :p
