My last project boat a 1957 Alumacraft Flying D has been sitting in a shed for the last 4 years. I moved and do not have the space for a proper shop so the boat has sat incomplete and neglected. I tried to give the boat away to a friend when I was diagnosed with a health issue and I didn't have the gumption.

Because of additions to the fleet I had to rent a storage garage I bucked up to get a bigger unit to empty the garage of nonessential items. The Flying D is going in the garage and will be completed I have all the components I need to finish the job I just have to find a lower unit for the 57 mark 55.

I will probably still end up selling the boat to a collector that has the space and time but I would always regret not taking the boat out for a few rips down the lake.

Plus it is not purebred the mahogany seat backs were salvaged out of a Starcraft. This boat is a culmination of all the little parts and hardware I have accumulated. Not sure if I will install the NOS step and trim trim tabs on it, those have some value to old tin guys.

If it splashes before mid Dec, it's eligible for SOTY, often it's the journey that carries a rehab, sometimes it's the effort, in others it's the final product. Being an active forum contributer helps too.

Last year there were only a few entrants @ Resto Forum SOTY, and the starcraft forum SOTY didn't field a single nominee that could abid by the covenants governing acceptance of the nomination. So ya never know....

aluminum glass or wood all the same category, run what ya brung...

Luke won w a Lone Star 18ft aluminum boat.

Have the garage almost organized enough to bring the boat in. I think I am going to take the motor off and take the hull off the trailer so it fits better and is easier to get in and out of. Also not going to gamble on old small trailer tires making it 25 miles from the farm to my house so I will need to pick up a set before I move it. If I can get tires on it and get it moved, my son will be at the house to help me lift the motor and hull. I will take pictures when I get it in the shop.

It is a franken boat. I bought the hull for $100, it had been gutted. It was missing the two back transom handle/corners and the bow eye. I searched Craigs in 3-4 states for months to find a hull that had the same transom corners, I found one in eastern WI, the guy was taken back when I showed up with a saws all instead of a trailer to pick it up.

The mahogany seat backs, windshield, and steering wheel are out of a 1957 Starcraft. The whole boat is a culmination of parts I have accumulated from other project boats.

The motor is from another boat I bought for the motor and the trailer. I did not strip down and paint the motor. The internals of the motor have been all been rebuilt, the ignition and carbs etc was done by Mercury restoration pro.

The only major part I need is a lower unit for the motor, I have located one that has been rebuilt by another professional.

It is a 1957 Alumacraft Flying D and with a 40 hp mark 55 and it will fly.

they also probably like the 200# of wiring and screens and tech in todays vehicles....
Yeah they love the stupid tower on the ski boat that hold 2 speakers and a stern light that because of the height costs me $20 more a month to store because it requires a roll up door with 9' clearance. Oh but the speakers light up too.
