Remote Starter

I want to test rebuilt engine before placing in boat
1998 7.4 volvo gl with eem
can I just hook up a remote switch to purple wire?
will a screwdriver jumpered on solenoid crank and send power to eem?

A jumper wire on the purple wire on the engine will put power to the ignition.

NO, the jumper wire goes from the Battery positive terminal to the purple wire. That does nothing more than give powe to the ignition.
The remote start switcht (push putton) operates the starter.
