Current state of the project. I have only spent a few hours working on it, too many other things to do.
-Repaired aluminum above the top of the V on the lower window
-Drilled out an re-riveted the aluminum where the lower window posts mount to fix the large spacing on the window
I like your new shop too, and the new admiral approved boat. Sometimes people loose motivation on their projects when they add a new boat to the fleet. Good to see you're still working on the Islander.
Upper Windshield now on! I am still trying to find some replacement rubber U channel for the lower window. It shrunk over 2 inches and is now way too short.
Man, I love the lines of these vintage Islanders. Looks like something Seal Team Six would be using. Great job on the fix and restore. I missed the beginning so I'll catch up in the next couple of days.
Lower Hull
The stripper works very well. I should pull the boat out and use the pressure washer to strip it, but I am applying and using a scrub brush to take off the old paint seems to work well.
The trailer is a split quad bunk version, not the best for this type of boat. It does fit better than all the other trailers I tried. I may change the quad bunks to 2 long 2 x 6 polymer covered down the road. It all comes down to cost, even switching the bunks over and using the existing mounts will be around $160 cdn. Our money is not worth anything right now.
I actually own a trailer business here in B.C. Canada www.jseequipment.com I am a dealer for Karavan and EZ Loader. Customers trade in used trailers when they buy new ones so who knows the trailer may get swapped again.
