other way you could tell is if the raw water impeller is mounted on the engine, if it is then its a joint venture drive. The pure OMC Cobras had the impeller in the tail end of the upper gear housing, both the dog clutch ones the rare cone clutch one.
no gasket between drive & pivot housing.
just coat the part of the bearing carrier that pushes into the end of the bellows with marine grease, coat that part of the bellows as well and the whole mating surface of the upper gear housing and pivot housing, that helps keep it from corroding together.
Keep in mind that you have to disconnect the shift cable (its under that plastic cover that says Cobra on it) before removing the drive, and you will have to re-connect it and properly adjust it after you install the drive. On the pure OMC Cobra design this is not necessary, they used a shift fork and bell crank that fit together when you install the drive. What you have is basically a Volvo SX painted in OMC Charcoal Grey paint.
