Port side is laid up......not as big of a fight as the starboard, but I mixed it slow so I could lay up two layers at once......so 75,000 BTU space heater to the rescue. And yes I did vent the shop first. I'm not real big on un-planned explosions! I tried to upload a pic, but I seem to be having issue with photobucket. Seems like it has been really slow lately, keeps giving me an error.

Tonight was the moment of truth.....I rough trimmed the parts to see if they fit. I started out by stretching a string between the reference marks I laid out on the hull last week.

With this, and a strait edge I was able to get some fairly accurate dimensions. I also used a piece of cardboard to trace the corner.

There is still a lot of cutting are fitting, but the parts fit like a glove so far!

You can see how much area it adds to the back deck!

I do have a little clearance issue with the spark arrestor, but I think it will be fine once I trim off the .....still has the extra from the layup on it.

Real impressed arch, it really will look factory. I am continually impressed with you and your fiberglass brethren. "Yeah, so I changed my boat from a V to a tri hull over the weekend with a few layups" crazy stuff this fiberglass. Makes my rebuild look like I was playing with blocks or something. Are you planning on matching the green/blue once this is glassed in?

Thanks for the complements Guys! Its kind of funny when you are cutting it out thinking......"is it going to fit or did I screw it up?' I was really happy with the dog house groove Sam. That was the hard part, turned out well. Pat I am painting everything above the rub rail that is the turquoise color. I'm going to match the original color, seems like it kind of matches the boat. I still have a lot of tabbing in and trimming to do......yeah more grinding:eek:!

That groove looks almost perfect Arch, great job on it. I think that colour will look good on it, you are right about it fitting the boat.

Thanks Skater. I had a little more time on the boat tonight. The only thing I got done was taking the vent scoops off. I need them out of the way to glass and I will probably move them. Looks like they put them on, then glassed in some vertical vent tubes below. You couldn't get to the nuts and they kept spinning. And naturally they were a slot headed machine screw, not the easiest to drill out. I dished out the centers with a dremel and a small grinding stone. I was lucky, they turned out to be brass so pretty easy grinding. After that I was able to drill them out. It still took about an hour to get 6 screws out. I had a few other chores tonight, but hopefully I can make a dent in things tomorrow. I would like to pull the boat out and grind down to prep for the tabbing. Hopefully I can also finish up the cutting and fitting. I would like to have the first tabbing in by the weekend.

It is one thing to repair our own boats and maybe tweaking a couple things . But to make them from scratch and to turn out as well as these have is a whole other story. Well done Sir.

Lol Ahminicha, I might still screw it up yet! Thank you for the complement. I feel pretty goo about it now, the hard part is over, now the not so fun or sexy grinding, glassing and body work! Hope it looks a little more complete on Sunday afternoon.

Poly with two layers of 1.5 CSM and two layers of 1708. They are about 3/16" thick. Seemed like a good layup schedule for something that is going to get walked on.

Awesome work! Getting those angles to match the existing slope of the raised portions, as well as the water channel groove had to be challenging. Turned out great, now on to the finishing work. You got me thinking now about how I'm going to build my doghouse when I get to it...I've never experimented with molding parts, might have to give it a try!

I have been contemplating what is on the agenda this weekend. I'd like to get the deck extensions trimmed and tabbed in. I cleaned the shop tonight, so I am thinking of grinding them to fit tomorrow, and grinding for the tabbing. Maybe get them tabbed on Friday evening. I was debating building the back seat first or the dog house.....actually that is sort of a build it at the same time deal....more like which do you start first? I also took apart the old seat that was in the worst condition. I wanted to take a look at the wood frames overall dimensions without all the foam. And there is a lot of foam, these things are like lazyboys! I am doing away with the lounger function, and going with hinged seat bottoms for storage. I want to keep it periodish correct, but tweak the design some. I'm going to take a look at them with my interior designer tomorrow....nice thing about having an architecture firm! Anyhow get her thoughts, then I am going to stop by and visit with an upholstery friend who did Miss Morgan. So I may end up building the seats front this weekend....that way I could ship them off to him for upholster while I work on other stuff.

I found this, funny to find that the foam was labeled 40 years ago! someone also did a little addition and subtraction on the back of the plywood seat.

Oh UPS also brought a big box today with all the gimble housing goodies....bellows, gaskets, shift cable, gimble bearing. I also got a tool to remove and install the gimble bearing and an alignment tool. Should be getting a fancy hinge from Iboats that Mike will be jealous of in the next few days :D
