Good to see you back at it. The trailer looks like it's coming along nicely. I think I understand how you are thinking of using cradles for the sponsons instead of a bow stop, and I think it would work fine with tie downs. Would you still have to have a tower up front for a winch or could a winch be mounted down lower on the trailer frame?

Tnstratofam, I think there would still be some kind of tower, just shorter. I want the winch strap to be in line with the bow eye, which is 3' or so above the tongue.

I went back to the beginning of your thread to look at how the old trailer was set up, but couldn't tell what if any kind of bow stop was used on the old trailer. I think having some sort of cradle or stops for the sponsons is a good idea. Especially after looking at how the old trailer didn't have any.

Just a thought...If you go without a bow stop will you not need something to keep the boat from landing on the car in the event of an accident? It would have to be one heck of a strap.

That's going to be one cool old boat that'll be around for another 40 years or more. Looks like you'll be able to take the boat and trailer in a Soviet armored division parade...built like a tank. I'm used to tin boats so it's cool to see the Seacast work.

Tnstratofam, the bow stop actually damaged the bow from rubbing around over the years. Most of that was due to the slop in the tilt trailer hinge.

Jake, the sponson cradles will do the same ting in combination with the ratchet straps. The straps are rated at 1500 pounds working load and I should have 3 of them. Your point is well taken, and I may add something to the winch tower as a backup.

Thanks sprintst, I like to make sure I do things once....:D Seacast is great to work with!

Got the tounge welded up and temporally put on the bunks.

All nice and cozy back on the trailer.

I have a few more fall chores, like welding up a couple of gates....so it maybe a few weeks before I get much else done. I would like to finish up glassing in the small pieces of deck forward of the toe board....and foaming them before it cools off. I'm also working on starting to build out the shop part of the hanger this fall.....always too many projects!

I like the gussets on the trailer tounque. I would not have thought of that technique. Has anyone modified a trailer for a breakaway tounque?

Are you talking about a folding tongue Kilo? I'm going to add a gusset to where the back of the tongue is welded to the cross member, just didn't get to it today.

Looks like your getting them knocked out in short order to me ! :hail:
Fuggly looks great back on the trailer !
btw , sprintst ... Seacast makes a primer that you can use for tin boat transom's and they are also coming out with a carbon fiber additive that will make it stronger than it already is ..

I just finished reading about the aluminum boat options. It was also a smart idea to make those funnels. I'm sure archbuilder could resell them after he's done to another dude on the forum :)

Looking good arch! Trailer setup is looking solid! BTW I can't believe it's almost Halloween!:faint2: Where'd the time go?? As they say, time & tide waits for no man, especially when they have too many projects going on at once!

Arch, yes I wondered if anyone had a kit or done a homemade breakaway tounge modification.

No boat work the last few weeks, I've been tied up with building a couple of gates. Got the frame for my entry gate welded up last weekend.

Hopefully I can get the more decorative stuff welded in it this weekend.

I have been pondering the interior, but I am making myself get the gate stuff done before diving back in....I'm itching to get back at it, lol!

Nice frame work there art. Post the progress on that too. I like most any type building projects myself. And I honestly know how boat work can come to a complete stop so other things can get done. Been there, done that. :thumb:

Nice gate! Did you do the bend on the top yourself, or have it done?
