No work tonight. i'm going to try to get the tabbing in tomorrow, then move the boat to the hanger. I'm going to pull her off the trailer, buff the bottom and sort out the bunks.

I'm taking a break from her this weekend to work on the purple ***** (jeep). I ordered new clutch linkage for her, and a new head gasket set.....hopefully that will be enough to get her running for the summer. Seems like the more I bolt back on to her, the more that falls off! But I am tired of walking everywhere at the lake....so hopefully this will make the old girl happy!

Maybe if you called her the Purple Princess instead of purple witch, she'd treat ya better ;)

Thorough....

Hmph umm, yeah about that, i dont think thats a 'typical' description for vintage boat builders, so count yourself lucky they were, anywhere, even if only on the decorative bits...

Actually JB, I was pondering if she just needed a new paint job to sooth her....something in a nice crimson to match Miss Morgan! I figure if I keep bolting new stuff on, pretty soon there won't be anything old to fall off!

No boat work today, but I did get the right head off the jeep.....looks like lucky nuber4 was getting air fuel and water. I think its the gasket, but need to clean it up and take a closer look.

Arch, I discovered this thread a few days ago and finally got caught up. I really appreciate the effort you put into documenting your thread. It is a great help to noobs like me. The videos are great too! This is a great project and I can't wait to see her splashed! I grew up west of OKC and have lived in Bartlesville, OK for the past 40 years so I know what you are dealing with when the storms come. Great work!

got the jeep back together tonight....still have the same issue. Oh well it was worth a try for $50, figured I had a 50/50 chance after looking at the head gasket. So time to put the jeep up till winter and back to the boat.

Hang in there, I know you will figure out the Jeep's issue long before winter. In the meantime, let's splash FUGGLY!

Thanks Cool! Willy I have an idea that the jeep is going to want a lot of attention, so I'm back to fuggly. I took the weekend off and went to the lake, which is flooded. But I need some time off and it was a good trip. I took today off and worked on cleaning up and organizing the hanger some......Miss Morgan was in the back and I wanted to get her out, hopefully I can actually put her in in the next few weeks. Some how my dad's smoker on a trailer mysteriously appeared in the hanger in front of her....hmmmmm.

Anyhow, re-arranged things today and pondered getting fuggly off the trailer. She is in the hanger, which the extra room will come in handy. I want to build the bunk brackets and get rid of the rollers. I can see how the rollers would be handy, but she is going to be on the road a lot.....and I hate how she squirms around on the rollers. I could swap out the brackets with her on the the trailer, but if I take her off the trailer, I can buff out and clean up the fairly nasty bottom. Getting her off the trailer is a little bit of a chore, but I think I have a plan. Should have her off by this weekend and hopefully get her back on before next Monday. Then a little glass work forward of the bulkhead....and then its time to put the motor back in!

Hi Arch, I have been quietly following along, this is such a cool boat and I look forward to seeing her in the water soon. Last week my friend and I took my 21ft boat off the trailer to paint the bottom, Here is how we did it, once I had the stern supported by blocks we used a bottle jack to take the weight of the bow off the trailer, I was able to gently pull the trailer out with a Come-A-Long connected from the trailer tongue to the trailer hitch on my truck. This gave me a little more control over how fast the trailer moved as I pulled it. We did have to move the bottle jack each time it reached the trailer cross members. My boat is a more conventional V hull though the process is the same. Hope this helps and be careful. Keep up the good work.

Welcome aboard Mr300. Very cool technique on the boat unloading!

I have an idea that is sort of similar, but will probably change....always does! Since I need the two sponsons to bear on the support (jack, cribbing, etc.) its a little different logistically. I thought about having a jack on both sides up front, then I came up with the idea of sliding a 12' 6x6 under both sponsons, jacking it up, then putting cribbing (8" concrete blocks) under each side to support the beam. I hadn't thought of jacking up the center till you mentioned it, but that is an excellent idea....not sure why that hadn't occurred to me....maybe the poly fumes....

For some reason I had jacking up each side one at at a time stuck in my head! Thanks for the idea!

After that jack the back up with the engine hoist, pulling the trailer out a little, then sitting the back on cribbing. Since the front blocks will be wider than the trailer (8'), I should be able to ease her out. I like the come a long idea, but hopefully it should just roll out. I have toyed with the idea of taking the tires off and putting the axle on skates if I need extra vertical clearance. I guess we will see how it plays out......

there is always a frame rail or something in the way!

Thats exactly how ive always done it mr300, i just use a few concrete blocks and a board to hold the bow up off the trailer, while i move the jack to the other side of the crossmember..........never used the comealong tho, just inched it forward on the hitch, even when alone....the comealong would definately help while solo. It does always freak me out a bit climbing underneath to move the blocks.

Must be a Jersey thing..

Heh, that's a good idea to use the come-a-long. I only had to put the boat up on blocks once, so I could do some work on my trailer.

Taking the boat off the trailer is definitely a bit nerve racking. Having an extra set of hands/eyes helps. Mine is painted and safely back on the trailler just waiting for some some good weather for splash day.

Very medieval looking Sam! I ordered a few goodies tonight, new thru hull fittings. I have been up to my eyeballs in work and chores. I should be getting the boat off the trailer this weekend.....then a little welding and buffing.
