Thanks Nursman, seems like these things are half working on them, half researching them! I swapped out the distributor cap today for one with 6 contacts on it. its part number was the same as the v8, but ended in a 6.....the V8 ends in a 5, think it was a typo when they ordered it. Regardless we'll find out if it fits soon enough. I also picked up a thermostat, I love how marine products cost 4 times what automotive parts do. Still trying to figure out why the thermostat cost more! That one I don't get other than the name on the package it came in.

Maybe. My guess is it gets a pipe plug if I can't find anything to hook it up to.

Although I doubt if your distributor has vacuum advance, you might want to use that switch to delay the advance until the engine warms up. That might make starting it easier also.

Willy, the distributor is a mechanical advance, so that wouldn't work. I did some research, and the block does appear to be an automotive block based on the serial number. Thanks for the thought, I'm still thinking it is a car part.

I think it might have been for a vacuum advance. It sure looks like a sender base on there. Maybe search for a part number on it. If this is what it is it should be open now when the engine is cold and the sender should be plumbed into a water jacket. It could be plugged no problem but it would also be a good spot for a water temp sender for a gauge. I'm assuming u will be pulling water from the lake which will keep things cool but thermostats still go bad and passages still clog. I think the two most important gauges to have are oil pressure and water temp.

Thanks for the info Patfromny. It has a temperature sending unit on the manifold side. I agree on the water temp and oil gauges. I did tinker with the idea of a water pressure gauge, but since it has a thermostat, I'm not sure how useful that would really be. I guess you would know you pump is working. I don't think it has any numbers on it, but I will check today.

Back to grinding today, had some fence to build yesterday....I can tell it to, barely able to crawl out of bed this morning!

Got some grinding done, but my butt was dragging.....made a little dent in it, later on I did manage to get quite a bit of de-greasing done. I'm still impressed with this Zep degreaser,

did some measuring and number crunching tonight. Figured out how much seacast and foam I need tonight. 10 gallons of foam, lol it should never sink with that in her!

I did some seacast figuring also for the Borum ..
The jury is still out on that decision .. Only good thing is I am close enough to pick it up myself ...
How many cubic feet will 10 gals of foam make ?

sphelps, 10 gallons makes 40 ft. I only need 7 gallons, (according to my extremely precise guestimate) but its cheaper to buy the 10 gallon kit vs four 2 gallon kits. If its cool, I'll need extra foam anyhow.

I'm going with the seacast, It was a nice product to use and easy to work with. Plywood is fine, but I won't ever be redoing it again.....I have other activities to entertain myself with...ladies and adult beverages on the beach :D Grinding on this girl once is enough!

Loooonnnng week, but I was able to sneak out early.....actually I said I'm done, don't care who is panicked about getting something done they should have told me about 6 moths ago......felt like Clint Eastwood :D

I took advantage of the nice 70 degree weather this afternoon and chiseled out the last section of plywood on the bottom of the port sponson. They got a good bond, 2 hours later I had 5 gallons of wood chips. Started grinding the transom by candle light so to speak, knocked a good dent in it. The slow going is when I hit the zolitone, its like girding a hard glazed donut. We are supposed to get a cold front "late tomorrow", whatever that means. So my plan is to get at it early, service the long over due compressor and get after it, I hope I get the bulk of the grinding wrapped up.....and maybe a good pressure washing, She needs it for sure!

Sunday I'm going to start putting the I6 back together and ready to fire up!

Making good progress ! And I agree that zolatone stuff is the devil ! I see why they used it so much as tough as it is ....

It just doesn't grind well. I use a 5" air grinder with a 24 grit disk.....cuts glass great, nice and easy. The zolatone is a little softer, which I think is why it is so hard to get off...kind of like grinding rubber.

Have you tried clearing the debris out of a disk w/ an old tennis shoe sole? Zolotone sort of gets gummy, IMO, when it's hit w/ a high speed grinder. Really clogs up the paper, which then makes it an even bigger, gummier mess...

lol haven't heard of the tennis shoe trick! I'll have to try that. Actually the transom is done, getting ready to head out and hit the bottoms of the sponsons and center pod where the plywood was. I don't think there is any zolatone grinding left, so things should go quickly now.

itch itch itch.....got her pressure washed and cleaned up. Of course I have thought of a couple more areas that need some grinding, hate that....but nothing major. I washed a big pile of dirt and fiberglass dust out of her....nice and clean now!

Time to take another shower......
