Just another bass. This is actually a big bass this far north. Not a monster but definitely big (18 inches).

My wife let me net this one for her. 6-10, in MN where the record is 8-15 Fish was hungry. With a full belly, would have weighed over 7.

Me think that's a largie.

I guess it is. The color threw me. We do get 6 lb small mouth in buffalo (lake Erie).

That's still bigger than I have ever caught. Kind of sad considering how much I fish. I have already cought 20 bass this week. Biggest was 2# 14 oz.

You're telling me. I've been bass fishing for 30 years. Took me 25 years to get her to throw a bass bait. "I'll just sit here and bobber fish with angle worms."

Next problem was keeping her out of tackle shops. Definitely not a problem finding someone to go fishing with.

Then, one day, I catch two over 4 lbs, and a couple over 3, and make the smart remark, "Thanks for coming along and netting my big fish." Next thing I hear is "I think I have one. " It's bigger than anything I've ever caught.

We laughed and giggled all night.

Heck yeah you do. I love great lakes smallies. Every single one of them act like they're 3 times their actual size.

My brother caught a big one a few years back. I remember it was running out his drag like a salmon or something. Like a jerk I was telling him how he should have set his drag before, and how stopping to adjust it now gives the fish an opportunity to throw the lure. Turns out that the drag was set properly for his line. He had a 3+ lb smallie on and more drag would have snapped the line for sure.

I don't act like I know more than my little bro anymore.

I've caught a lot of largemouth bass 5 lbs and more. It about stops your heart to stick one and have it immediately heads for the sky.

4 1/2 pounder I stuck Monday skated about 40 feet sideways across the top of the lake at the end of a long cast. Brief, but very wild fight.:D

Re: Post pictures of the fish you catch!!

Outdoor Talk show host Tim Lesmeister took talk show host Chris Baker and his two sons, Geronimo and Elvis on a grouse and gator hunt in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.

While the men were fishing with appropriate winch and cable tackle for Northern Pike Geronimo was fishing for walleye with a jig and minnow on a light rig. Guess who got the gator. Before the men realized what was happening, his brother Elvis netted the monster. Geronimo, of course, then cast himself as the fishing expert, much to the old folks chagrin.

I heard the story on the Chris Baker show on the way to work this morning. I laughed till I cried because I've been in the same situation with my kids.

Re: Post pictures of the fish you catch!!

Hi to all,
MRS, the rod i'm using it's actually an overkill but it pulls the fish out of the water like nothing. It is a Shimano Convergence 10'6" intended for steelhead, salmon. It is a long rod that actually brings fly fishing guys near by just to find out that i'm not fly fishing...and yes this rod with the Shimano Solstace FI allows me to cast nearly to the other side of the river or lake...:D.
Thank you.
Dan
