My Starcraft experience from earlier this spring went a little sideways. and now boats and boat parts are multiplying like rabbits.
I got the Seafarer I purchased In February on the lake and outfitted to perform some inventory surveys.
It took some effort, I tried a couple 9.8s and wasn’t confident in their utility.
I retired/gave up on this one because I can’t get it to rev up smoothly and efficiently, I need to rebuild carb again with a better carb kit.
Looking around a bit I found a nice affordable 73 9.8 with a tiller handle.
I really like the tiller handle engine but it was manual start and no stator so charging a field battery wasn’t in the cards. I also wanted a remote console for long days in the drivers seat. I had a change of heart and maybe desire for reliability and practicality took over, I didn’t want to be stranded on a lake, so I found a newer power plant.
My needs for a boat is to perform on water surveys, I needed a trailer, I have a lot of miles to cover this season, this was a major source of stress, dealing with a sketchy and expensive load. Fortunately I made the one way 7hr drive to get my 1st job collected. no incidents other than a couple wrong turns. Believe It or not this pulled pretty well at old man interstate speeds.
Used trailers are a bit rare around here, I looked for a couple months and for the price of he cheapest new in stock trailer I could find, this shows up and I end up bringing this Falcon-14 home last weekend. Such a cute boat and it has me re-thinking my workboat needs or just have an inexpensive runabout to play on the rivers and lakes around here.
I have to stay away from classifieds. I also added another 9.8 merc to my collection in the deal. I’m sure I don’t need to represent 3 decades of 9.8 merc 110s
After being an inboard ski boat guy for most my life I never thought I’d own an outboard powered boat, now I have two tin boats and four Mercury engines. Bad part is I want to keep them all.
Pic of boat number three in the seaworthy stable. Posted in order to fully validate and own up to my lack of willpower when it comes to shiny well made toys. Here’s a pic of my 02 Mastercraft Prostar. I had to rebuild after rescuing It from a pack a drunken NJ tweakers.
