Nice, good on you for taking up the challenge of getting one of these old boats back on the waves again.Well i started a boat project and have been looking around for information and ended up here . I got a 1983 starcraft 15.8 supersport with a 50hp evinrude .
Start a topic about your rebuild, this isnt a rebuild discussion topic and ask about rivet nuts and any/all aspects of rebuilding your SC there.I do have alot of questions one is im replacing the floors and i dont like the idea of rivets i was thinking of riveting aluminum around the boat then using rivet nuts for the floor do you of anyone that has done it and the outcome?
Nice boat! It is one year younger than ours, but I can't see any big differencesHere's my 1973 Nova with a 73 Mercury 500 thunderbolt.
My first boat!
Oops sorry about the finger didn't remember it was for my best friendThe floor is rotten, got the motor to purr like a kitten, outdrive has fwd and rev, the hydraulics leak.I bypassed the impeller and got a little water in the oil . I think the plate in the silly intake exhaust heater changer may be history and leaks.
Nice project ChiefOops sorry about the finger didn't remember it was for my best friendView attachment 329958
Yes, title has matching HIN. It very well my be a conversion because I have only been able to find one other like it on the internet. It was posted here about 4 years ago by rowdy85.My guess is that it WAS a SuperSport and was "converted"
Doesnt look like the factory decking painted white. Does the title list the correct HIN ending in 1978?
Run the HIN here

Nothing like jumping right into 30 feet of tin needing love and affection!I picked up a 72 starcraft kingfisher 14' for $150 with no trailer intending to make a boat out of it. Then, I found a 74' starcraft SS 16' with trailer and a running 70hp Johnson with great compression. It was an abandoned project where they were going to turn it into a center console. To my delight, the seller kept all of the windshield and open bow stuff. So, I'm in the process of completely stripping it down and restoring. I have everything off and going to strip all the paint, go bare aluminum, and customize it to my liking. I'll do the kingfisher along side so hopefully in the end I'll have two boats that will last another 50yrs. I def. caught the aluminum boat bug.
I have been absorbing all the great info in the forums.
Nice to see another Chief that hasn't been attacked by sawzall savants desire for an open tub.Mine
