As I recall - not nearly as many boats on the lakes in Europe as here is America - be sure to post some pictures of your boat on the "see" - I think everyone here should know how beautiful it is in the Alps!!

Cheers!!!!

Hi, Gang,

I'm new here, and this will be my first post. I'm the happy owner of a 2005 Starcraft. It's a 16' Classic DLX, a "sportfisherman".

It's my first Starcraft, and while not my first boat or first aluminum boat, it has been 20 years since I've had one and finding I have to start learning all over again. I'm sure I'll have questions for you all.

I'm in Central Florida and will be using it in salt and brackish water.

So, as we say around here, "howdy y'all!".

Thanks! It's not perfect, which is great, because then I don't have to try to maintain perfect. Kinda' like me....with flaws but able!

Re: Post a pic of your starcraft!

Hi guys! I've been lurking here for a few weeks since my friend gave me a boat.

Here it is:

starcraft 14 016.jpg

As near as I can make out from the paperwork it's a '64 Starcraft. The lack of rivets point to it being of the fiberglass variety. Don't know what the model is yet because while the boat plate is there, someone clamped a trolling motor over it and ruined that bit. From what I can make out in person the model number says "14' COB???' Here's what's left of it:

starcraft14030.jpg

The motor is a '69 Johnson 55hp w/Hydro-electric drive electrical fire waiting to happen:

starcraft 14 025 (800x534).jpg

So it looks like I'll be on all of the sub forums bugging the elders with noobie type questions as I work through this new project. I'm looking forward to the learning experience.

By the way, if a friend gives you a boat, is he still your friend?

Re: Post a pic of your starcraft!

well, if it's a fiberglass boat........

start a thread on your boat. and also post the Q on what it is at fiberglassics.com as they're more the experts on old 50s-60s glassers

He was so excited about the boat ride he fell asleep. How anyone could fall asleep in front of that thing is beyond me.

Finally enjoying all the hard work

Finally enjoying all the hard work

Well I have to say thanks to every one that makes the detail right ups on how to restore one of these fine boats. I didn't make my own progress reports along the way because I was on a time crunch and pretty much put all the free time I have into the boat. I did the normal pull the floors foam and flip. Stripped it buffed it and shark Hided it, and painted the lower half. Boat turned out very well still have some above the water line stuff to do but that can be done at anytime. We have been out in Boston harbor about 5 times now boat runs great. Thanks again here is a before and after of the boat. photo.jpgphoto.jpg2012-02-21_17-15-31_52.jpg
