Re: My Contribution 76 Silverline Nantucket HTV Hardtop Mercruiser 233hp Project

I finally had some time to work on the boat this week and got it to start and everything seemed to be okay, except that even with water going straight to the water pump via a water hose the engine was heating up, anybody knows why this might be?

On mine it turned out to be two things: Thermostat, and the PO had two lines swapped. I had water sort of circulating a little backwards (I think).

It appears you have your drive up while running it. That is kind of hard on the u joints. On your cooling problem it might just need an impeller replacement.

Even if the water is running straight to the water pump?

It's more about the gear connections. They're not designed to run up that high. I usually take mine down to where the skeg is just off the ground (when I run it on a trailer) - it won't go all the way down.

Bummer ... Does it look like an easy fix? The Comoro Tri-Hulls are nice designs. I really enjoy mine. There is a point though where you just let 'em go. What kinda' power do you have for it?

I am letting it go and found a Crestliner is better condition I hope. It had a 65 horse Evenrude.

A drag about the Silverline. Hope the Crestliner is an easy one for you. If that is the 65 Evinrude Triumph, it's a great motor. Electric shift will be a booger when it goes, but until then they're fantastic.

Re: Post a pic of your Silverline!

I picked up another Silverline yesterday. Its a Comoro 17T with 165hp mercruiser inline 6. The motor runs and the drive seems to be good. It just needs a few things then I can water test it. The boat didnt cost me anything. I pulled the motor today to make some repairs on the steering. The gimbal housing will need removed for that. Heres one pic for now. Ill get some more tomorrow.

Its a '73. Guess I could have mentioned that huh?

The motor has milky oil and a small hairline crack on the outside under the exhaust manifold. I pulled the pushrod covers and didn't see any cracks so hopefully the water is just from sitting. I'm going to pressure test the block and see what happens.

Re: Post a pic of your Silverline!

I did a pressure test on the block and the only leak I found was through the external crack on the block. Ill seal that up with JB weld, replace the intake/exhaust manifold gasket, change the oil then run it and hope for the best.

Yep. Real close to mine.

She's no gazelle on the water. More of a rhino. It's pretty heavy for a 17', but that makes for a smoother ride on the water. I think they're a little "beamy" too adding a few extra inches of cockpit space. At idle or just bobbing along, it's a real comfortable boat. Just a good cruising boat, in my opinion.

Good luck gettin' it going.
