Hello all, considering buying this "new to me" ride this weekend. It's a 1991 Challenger with a 48 hp Johnson. Everything on it works, nice trailer and starts good. Average interior. Asking 2200 for it. Any opinions or reviews of the boat and motor is appreciated. Thanks!image.jpg

As with any boat of that age, condition is everything. If the floors and transom is solid, hull not leaking (make sure you do a lakie test), motor and controls checks out, trailer in good shape, then $2200 sounds like a reasonable price.

Keep on looking for something a little newer. The 48 hp Johnson was a good motor, but it's insufficient for powering a bassboat.

You've got to be careful buying older fiberglass boats. Unless they've been garaged their whole life and kept out of the weather, the wooden stringers and transoms will often not be solid.

Also - check real close: I'm not certain that outboard is a 1991. It looks older than that.

Again check the transom and stringers. I purchased my first boat last year which was a 1992 skeeter bass boat and it turned out to have a rotten transom. I have since purchased a newer center console with a composite transom. Be sure to check everything wooden for rot.

The Outboard is not even close to big enough to efficiently run that boat. Sea test anything you consider buying, walk away from any boat that wont allow for this.
